William (Billy) Charles Curtis of Hudson, Florida, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the age of 78. Born to Charles and Marma Jean Curtis in Oxford, Michigan in 1943, Billy was the eldest of five siblings. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1961 and shortly after married his high school sweetheart,
Sharon. Billy went on to college at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan where he began his career as a custom home builder and developer. His entrepreneurial spirit was critical to his success as a small business owner in Michigan and his steadfast determination to provide for his family led him to
Florida in 1984 where he built a successful contracting business with Sharon’s help. Billy had long-standing business relationships with well-known area builders such as Nohl Crest, Mark Maconi, Arthur Rutenberg, Charles Rutenberg, and Hannah-Bartoletta to name just a few.
Billy was a beloved member of the Lake Orion Seventh-Day Adventist church in Lake Orion, Michigan, and was instrumental in the development of the Adventist Christian school built on the property as well as the bakery. Oak Hollow Bakery made and sold baked goods to the local community and the profits
were used to help families pay the tuition for their children attending school.
As a member of the New Port Richey Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Florida, Billy was a popular Sabbath School teacher and was instrumental in the development of Kid’s Safari Christian Daycare and participated in the expansion and development of the Adventist Christian Academy on Thys Road.
Billy was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather, a true-blue American, and a lifelong member of the NRA loved baseball and his Harley-Davidson and spent countless hours flying airplanes out of what used to be Tampa Bay Executive Airport. He is preceded in death by his father Charles, and his mother
Marma Jean and his youngest sister Kim. He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Sharon Curtis (Sites), daughter Carmen and sons Brian and Kevin, grandchildren Cameron, Dalton, William, Sophie, Kayla, and Michael, sisters Marilyn and Sharon, brother Tom and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He
will be sorely missed by all who knew him, though we do find peace knowing one day soon we will reunite with him in the kingdom of Heaven.
There will be no viewing or service and Dobies Funeral Home will be performing the cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Adventist Christian Academy in honor of Billy’s life-long commitment to providing families with access to Christian education.
