Eva Drakatos

Eva Drakatos

November 07, 1936~November 03, 2022

Eva Drakatos passed peacefully on November 3, 2022, after a very brief illness.  Eva was born on November 7, 1936, on the island of Kefalonia, Greece in the town of Spartia.  She came to the United States in 1954 at the age of 17 with her mother and settled in Staten Island, NY. She married Jerry in 1957 and lived in the Bronx for a few years until they eventually moved to NJ where they lived for 28 years before coming to Florida in 1990.

As a young girl in Greece, she was trained in needlework and sewing which lead to a 55-year career as a seamstress. She retired at the age of 78 from Macy’s tailoring dept after 22 years at Countryside.  For Eva, food was love. She was an effortless cook and baker who loved to feed people. She had “golden hands” in the kitchen and a green thumb in the garden. She grew a vast variety of flowers and plants and nurtured them as she did all of us because she was like pure sunshine.

Eva is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jerry; daughter Arestoula (John), daughter Maria (Scott); one grandchild Katharine; and was “Thea” to countless nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be at Dobies Funeral Home in Tarpon Springs on Thursday, November 10 from 4-6pm.  Funeral service will be Friday Nov 11 at 11:00 am at St. Nicolas Greek Church in Tarpon Springs immediately followed by interment at Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens, New Port Richey.  Donations in her memory can be made to St. Michaels Shrine, Tarpon Springs.
