John Stephen Samu passed away December 19th, 2022, at the Hospice Center in New Port Richey, Florida.
John was born March 20th, 1945, to Angeline and John Samu in Niles, Ohio. He was a former Marine and after serving, he married and settled down in Howland, Ohio. He was an active member of the community and leaves behind many friends in Howland, Niles and Warren, Ohio. John resided in New Port Richey for the last 18 years with his wife Jill.
John died of leukemia and lymphoma which he fought for 19 years. His family was by his side when he passed. Many friends did not know he had this disease as he lived his life to the fullest and was always upbeat.
John was well liked in the River Ridge Community and knew almost everyone. He loved to ride around in his golf cart and chat with neighbors. He was an avid golfer and so certain he would conquer this disease, he signed up for winter golf. John loved his Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed going to bible study classes. He was a volunteer ranger for the River Ridge Country Club, was a member of the Elks, golfed in several leagues and loved going to the beach. He played Santa Clause in 80-degree weather for a children’s Christmas party, and he enjoyed cruising and traveling around the country.
He was happily married to Jill (Neugebauer) Samu for 51 years. He is survived by his wife and three children, Jenn Samu-Herbert (Steve) and granddaughter Lauren Kay Herbert of Commerce Township, Michigan; Scott Samu (Bethany) of Gahanna, Ohio; Matthew Samu (Allison Smith) of Boardman, Ohio and two grandchildren of Columbus, Ohio, Carly and Cameron Samu. He is also survived by his brother Joseph (Linda) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and nieces Diane and Nicole Samu. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Darla Neugebauer of Palm Harbor, Florida. John leaves behind many cousins. His wish was to be cremated with no service.
John will be missed by all but never forgotten.
