Charles R. Bullington, 73, originally from Emporia, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Bonita, his daughters Lisa and Shelly and his granddaughters Emily, Audrey, Katie and Avarey. He is also survived by his brother Bob and his wife Teri, sister Betty Kay and her husband Perry, sister Mary Lee and her husband Bill and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Catherine, sister Jeanie and her husband Curtis and brother Norman Dennis.
After leaving Kansas, Charlie entered Duns Scotus College in Michigan. He completed the program and after making his first vows, he was transferred to St. Anthony Friary in Cincinnati.
Charlie’s fellow Brothers recalled him always smiling and looking like he had just done something against the rules! He was always pleasant, supportive, had a good listening ear and a huge heart.
Charlie left the Fransiscans and attended the University of Cincinnati earning a degree in Building Arts. After working several construction jobs, he decided to start his own company focusing on remodeling and building/designing new homes.
In 2012, Charlie was given the honorary lifetime membership award from the Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati. He was a Member and Chairman of the Butler County, Ohio Planning Commision and held the Christian Life Award from the Franciscan Alumni Association. He was a dedicated booth captain for the St. John Family Festival in West Chester, Ohio and countless other volunteer positions.
Charlie never met a stranger and given the chance, he would talk your ear off! Maybe for hours if you weren’t careful. He would always go out of his way to help everyone. If it was broken, he could fix it regardless of what it was! He was the best dad a girl could ask for and will be missed deeply by those who loved him.
Donations can be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association.

I’m very sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful guy with a great sense of humor. He was also more knowledgeable about the state building code than anyone in Ohio. I truly enjoyed working with him when I was at the Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati. This world could use more like him. He will be missed.

I knew and appreciated Charlie as a seminarians and as an active member of the Franciscan Alumni. When I was stationed at the Franciscan Monastery in Washington, Charlie visited me there. He had just come from lobbying congress. His zeal and enthusiasm were contagious. Please accept my prayers and sympathy for your loss here. He’s praying for you in heaven.

We can’t begin to convey the deep sorrow we felt upon learning of Charlie’s passing. I think it’s safe to say any one who knew Charlie would have to agree – he could make you laugh. Though we have not been in touch for years, just the mention of his name recalls Christmas parties, dinner parties, backyard cookouts and hours of laughter. Our hearts are filled with deepest sympathy for Bonnie who has been through so much in her life and now she’s lost the love of her life. You know we love you Bonnie… and Charlie too.

I’m so very sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. We have a very long history of great moments…laughter galore, parties, dinners, get togethers with our families, etc. The list is long. Sometimes life takes each of us in other directions and so our communications wane but the memories remain of the great times we had. Charlie was a great guy and such fun to be around. I know your heart and the hearts of your family are broken and the healing process is a slow one. May your memories bring comfort eventually as you travel this difficult road. My thoughts and prayers go out to you Bonnie and your family. The two of you will forever be in my memory.

There’s no papa in the world quite like my papa. Going to the grocery store was dreadful, he knew everyone and would talk for what seemed like HOURS. Roundabout’s were always fun because you can’t go around just once! Oh, and church on the weekend was a must, and you better stay awake!! Papa was the first one to ever hold me, my father-figure growing up. He’s the reason I have such a great sense of humor, and probably why I too have been called a ‘social butterfly’. Also the reason my fiance’s snoring doesn’t bother me, haha!! I prayed that he would be able to walk me down the aisle one day, and meet his first great-grandson. Although my heart hurts, I know that my papa will live on in me and in spirit. I’ll always remember his smile and laugh that could light up any room he was in, and will continue to use his life philosophies in my own. Cause after all, there is no papa in the world quite like my papa and my papa was the best papa.
