Anthony (Tony) Prete, 81, of Tarpon Springs, FL, formerly of Erie, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 18th, 2023. He was born in Jamestown, NY, the only child of the late Fred and Sarah Prete. Tony graduated from Jamestown High School and he then proudly served in the United States Army from July, 1962 – August, 1966. He worked life long as a Grinder, first in Jamestown, NY, at Blackstone and later on in Erie, PA, at Erie Malleable Iron until retirement. Tony was a longtime member of The New Apostolic Church where he enjoyed serving and spending time with fellow members of the church.
In addition to his wife, Diane (Heglund) Prete of 58 years, Tony is survived by three children, Anna Mangini and son-in-law Greg, of Tarpon Springs, FL, Annette Sharpe and son-in-law Ronald, of Dade City, FL and Michael Prete, of Tarpon Springs, FL as well as 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Sarah Prete, of Jamestown NY, his youngest son, John Prete, of Warren, PA, his eldest son, Bryan Prete, of Tarpon Springs, FL, and his eldest daughter, Rhonda Palmer, of Warren, PA.
Tony was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all who had the honor to meet and spend time with him. He was an honest, hardworking, dependable and loving man that truly loved his family. And all who knew him, family or friends, knew that the man could carry on a great conversation with many a story….old and new! We will all dearly miss our “Italian Godfather,” or as his grandkids nicknamed him years ago….”Tony the Squeeze!!”
There will be a Memorial Service held for Tony on Sunday, July 2nd, at The New Apostolic Church located at 6505 Polk Street, New Port Richey, FL 34653 for those that wish to attend.
