Edward “Ed” Mahoney was born on June 15, 1957 in Brockton, MA to Donald Lawrence Mahoney and Marie Cardillo Mahoney. He was raised by his father, mother and his Aunt Betty, who he loved dearly. Ed passed away on December 3, 2018 in New Port Richey, FL. He is survived by his wife, Linda as well as daughter Brianna and granddaughter, Amelia. He has five surviving siblings: Steven, Mark, Cheryl, David and Douglas. Ed has five step children: Susan, Karen, Jason, Kimberly, and Adam. He has seven grandchildren- Devin, Mathew, Tyler, Elijah, Christopher, Katherine and Ayden. Ed loved and cherished his family more than words could describe and spent as much time with them as possible. He was loved by all he encountered.
Ed would say to all: “Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as though I were beside you. I loved you so, twas Heaven here with you.”
Ed worked as an entrepreneurial business man throughout his life. He began his working career at 14 years old at Burger King where he worked his way up to manager. Later, he worked with his father in their own business with plumbing and construction. Later, Ed opened his own business in video rentals and repairs. He moved to Florida in 1990, where he escaped the cold, which was a goal of his since boyhood. Ed began working in car sales in Florida and continued this career until his retirement in 2010. In retirement, Ed became an avid E-bay store owner and fully immersed himself in his church. He taught Sunday school and Wednesday evening classes for the children at the church. This was his passion and he prided himself on all the work he did for God. Ed also oversaw the Angel Tree event to provide toys for children in need with a Christmas celebration event at the church. He volunteered his time at the church regularly throughout the week.
Outside of work, his passions were golf, sailing and Packers football. Ed was born a Packers fan and wore the colors with pride. He was even featured in the Pasco Tribune for his Packers room. Ed never missed a game and although he was not able to make it to Green Bay in person, his daughter went and brought the experience home. Ed golfed every Sunday and more when he was able. He competed in several tours in his younger days. Ed owned many sailboats and enjoyed cruising with family and friends.
Ed had many friends throughout his career and retirement. He forged relationships easily and was never one to overlook or forget those close to him or those in need. His best friend of 27 years Will Dellibovi was there for him every day. They would often golf together on weekends or talk football banter and never go a day without speaking. Ed had many close friends like this including John Reece, Michael Stanton, and Kevin McNamara. He made other lasting relationships with the owners and staff at some of his favorite restaurants. He was well known as a regular over the decades, but the friendships began right from the start with Billy Wells at Guidos and Chris, his wife Roula and his sons Theo and Eric at Christo's. His thoughts for others were often placed before thoughts for himself.
Ed was an active donor to charities like Ronald McDonald House, Make a Wish, and Missions of Hope International. In lieu of flowers, Ed would like donations to be made to the previously mentioned charities. Their missions meant a lot to Ed and his family.
Visitation will be at Dobies Funeral Home on 8825 Old CR 54 New Port Richey, FL 34653 on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. Service will being at 3 p.m. conducted by Ed’s dear friend Reverend Bill Small. Please come as you are or in your Packers gear.
