I will always be Daddy’s little girl. Daddy, my heart is broken in a million pieces, you took a huge part of my heart when you left. But I do feel you in my heart.

I have so many wonderful memories with you and your family. My first basketball coach. My second father. A man that made me laugh all the time. An old school guy with old school values that I will always cherish the time I spent with you. I love you Jimmy…. Eggy for Gregy is what you said when you cooked breakfast for us and I won’t forget it ever…..

I worked with Jim Sladky for years — beginning in 1985 — at Fleetwood Litho in NYC (later became AGT in Moonachie, NJ) and we together were asked to organize the facility when it moved its new machines, prep & production departments to Moonachie in 1990.

While the company was building a beautiful production department I shared space with Jim in a trailer on the side of the building. I didn’t originally come from a graphics background & Jim was one of the most helpful, guiding mentors I relied on. And he was wonderful. I liked Jim.

He used to run around like a madman in the plant but he always got the work done on time & with undivided attention. He was a pro. We often had breakfast together & he was a good guy, had lots of fun, great sense of humor & had good instincts about the business. He made working there easier.

Jim had been in printing almost his whole life, I think he started at 15. He always spoke so highly & proudly about his kids. I met his later girlfriend Daisy a few times & I think Jim was talking about retiring someday to Costa Rica. I don’t know if he ever made it.

The last time I spoke to him & saw him I was at a Clifton printing company & he was having some work done there & I helped.

Reader’s Digest often had a page about “The Most Unforgettable Character I Ever Met.” Yeah, Jim Sladky would qualify. He left a good impression…on me. RIP Jimmy & Daisy.
