Thelma Lois Hillan

Thelma Lois Hillan

July 15, 1923~August 07, 2023

Thelma Lois (Kratzke) Hillan passed from this world on August 7, 2023.  She was 100 years old. Lois was born on July 15, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to Arnold and Marie Lillian Kratzke. She graduated from Proviso High School in 1941 where she met John Edward (Jack) Hillan.  In his yearbook she wrote, “Good luck to the sweetest person in the world.” Lois and Jack were married on July 25, 1945 and he remained the love of her life until his death in 2017. They were married for 72 years.

Lois was employed by Commonwealth Edison during World War II, but when “the boys came home” as she put it, she took up her role as wife and, eventually mother. Family was everything to Lois and she was first and foremost a mother to her two sons, Dennis (Rebecca) and John (Deborah).

Lois and Jack were active members of the Presbyterian church in Lombard, Illinois where she served on the mission board.  Upon retirement they moved to Hudson, Florida and Lois became active in the Beacon Woods East Women’s Club where she served as Vice President for many years.

She is predeceased by her sister Verdell (Kratzke) Knippenburg, and is survived by her sons, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews who loved her in life and miss her now.

As well as being devoted to her family, Lois leaves behind many friends who loved her and who were loved by her.

We miss you mom.  Rest in peace.

Thelma put a smile on my face every Friday for nearly three years in a time when the world really needed that. I didn’t know her past our parking lot but she gave me something sweet to look forward to every week. She will be greatly missed.
