Joan Palmer Milloy
Joan Milloy passed away on January 19 at her home in Holiday FL. At 92 years of age, and as a woman of deep faith, Joan longed for the immortality promised to all by Jesus Christ.
Born June 23, 1931, to Adeline and Carl Palmer, Joan grew up in the Washington DC area. Joan converted to the Catholic faith at the age of 16 and wed Richard Milloy in June of 1950. The two had nine children and Joan remained devoted to her family and her faith to her last breath. As a young woman, Joan had interests in sailing, photography, backpacking, playing the dulcimer and bluegrass music.
Joan retired to Florida in 1991 after a successful career in data processing. She joined the Parish of Saint Vincent De Paul where she was an active member of the church and was engaged in numerous parish programs and activities for three decades. Her dedication included involvement as a Eucharistic minister for the homebound, lector, Daily EMHC Scheduler, Respect Life chairman, Divine Mercy Group, head of the Social Justice ministry, member of the Ladies Guild, Diocesan parish Cluster Teams, Parish Council member and Book Studies, and a long time volunteer at the West Pasco Pregnancy Center. During her early years at Saint Vincent de Paul, she was a recipient of the Saint Jude Medal and most recently Joan was recognized for her 20+ years of support of the 40 Days for Life program to end abortion. Joan’s passion for Christ, her parish and the Universal Church, all human life and in particular the rights of the unborn, was contagious and she was both a teacher and mentor to many in her own family, her parish family and her community.
She is survived by her seven children, including William Milloy and wife Cynthia of Silver Spring MD, Patricia Graham of Mineral VA, Kevin Milloy and wife Cheryl of Partlow VA, Sean Milloy and wife Julie of Nashville IN, Maureen Reynolds and husband Kenny of Herndon VA, Eileen Milloy and husband Robbie Robinett of Moyock NC, Kathleen McCord and husband Robb of Severna Park MD, 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
She is preceeded in death by her parents Adeline and Carl Palmer, former husband Richard Milloy, daughter Teresa Milloy and son Richard Milloy, Jr.
We pray she is welcomed into the fullness of life, made possible through the passion of Christ.
A funeral Mass is planned for Thursday, January 25 at 10.a.m. at Saint Vincent De Paul. A brief visitation will be held at 9:30 in the church and a light reception will follow Mass. Joan will be laid to eternal rest at the North-Meadowlawn cemetery in New Port Richey, Fl. Memorial donations may be made to the Respect Life ministry at Saint Vincent de Paul.
