Celebrating the Vibrant Journey of Gail Patricia Stapleton
Gail Patricia Stapleton, 77, from Port Richey, Florida, completed her vibrant journey of life on May 12, 2024, surrounded by the caring staff of Gulfside Hospice at Heather Hills in New Port Richey. Born on December 22, 1946, in Beckley, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Wilber (BeeBee) and Nellie Mae Henson.
A proud alumna of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1964, Gail’s life was filled with joy, love, and laughter. Her husband, John James Stapleton, who predeceased her in February 1993, shared many of these years alongside her. Gail spent her professional years at Cable TV of York, where she cultivated lifelong friendships that she treasured.
Gail found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved watching sunsets at Hudson Beach, engaging in conversations with everyone she met, caring for domestic and sometimes wild animals, and collecting all things turtle related. Karaoke nights were a special delight for her, especially when she sang Bette Midler’s “The Rose” and John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Above everything, Gail’s deepest affection was reserved for her family and friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her daughter, April Mae Stapleton of Dover, Pennsylvania; sons, John (Rebecca) Stapleton of Atlanta, Georgia, and David (Beth) Stapleton of York, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Maia Ashley DeFoe, Amelia Mae Stapleton, and Isabelle Elise Stapleton; sisters, Linda (Henson) Meadows of Florida, and Sharon Henson of Virginia.
In remembrance of Gail, contributions can be made to Gulfside Hospice of Heather Hills in New Port Richey, Florida, which provided solace in her final days.
Gail’s life, marked by fun and boundless laughter, will continue to inspire and be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her life, truly well-lived, will continue to resonate and spread warmth, mirroring the beautiful sunsets she adored.

If ever there is a tomorrow
when we’re not together,
there is something you
must always remember.
You are braver than you believe,
stronger than you seem
and smarter than you think.
But the most important thing is,
ever if we are apart.
I’ll always be with you.

Gail, Your humor and laughter will be so missed. MaryAnn and were co-workers with you at York Cable TV, that turned into a life long friendship. Of course you and both being from West Virginia gave us an instant bond. We are so thankful that you came to the mountains to visit us and had time together. You will always be in our hearts and in our memories. Rest in Peace our dear Friend. MaryAnn and Lee Flack
