Audrey Ann Norton, 89, of New Port Richey, FL, widow of John P. Norton, died on May 28th, 2024. Audrey was born on September 13, 1934 in Brattleboro, VT, the only child of William and Agnes Huestis (née Borkowski). Audrey attended Northfield School for Girls preparatory school in Northfield, MA, followed by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Following graduation, she took a position in Hartford, CT where she worked in insurance and met her first husband, John Lee, formerly of Beijing, China. Audrey subsequently obtained her Master’s Degree in Education and was a 4th grade teacher at Edgewood Elementary School in Bristol, CT for over 25 years. Following the death of her second husband in 2002, Audrey relocated from Burlington, CT to Selkirk, NY to be near her eldest child and his family. In 2012, she moved to her final home in New Port Richey, FL.
Audrey was a classic “New England Yankee”, full of energy, hard-working, frugal and well-mannered, and some might say stubborn! For over 70 years, Audrey was an avid bridge player, often playing twice a week. She loved the game and the mutual camaraderie among her bridge friends. Audrey was a lifelong avid gardener who immersed herself in designing, planting and caring for her beloved gardens and plants. She valued her friendships both old and new and was always happy to have friends come by for a visit, and stay as long as they wanted.
Audrey is survived by her three children and their spouses: William and Jenny Lee of Selkirk, NY, Wendy and Charley Hart of Virginia Beach, VA, and John and Sandy Lee of Burlington, CT; her eight grandchildren: Christopher, Rebecca and Daniel Lee; Jordan and Justin Hart; and, Tanner, Juliana and Jocelyn Lee. Audrey was very happy to meet her first great-grandchild, Ozzie last September. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on July 13th at the Summertree Club House in New Port Richey. A private burial will be held later with family in Brattleboro, VT.

Audrey was a beloved friend. She was very proud of her family her needlepoint and her gardens. She spent many hours weeding transplanting and making sure it was perfect. I often joked that one day I would find her laying out there, and her response was that would be perfect. We had a very close relationship and y will truly miss her.

Audrey we both had so much fun growing up together as close neighbors in Brattleboro Vt. and sharing birthdays – mine 2 days after yours- when we were very young. Remember exploring the wild areas “over the bank” near your house where we discovered wildflowers like trilliums? Guess that’s iwhere we both gained a lat er-in-life passion for gardening. You will be greatly missed my life-long friend.

Audrey I always remember sharing birthdays – yours was 2 days ahead of mine same year– when we were very young. Also as close neighbors we explored around and found wonderful wildflowers like trilliums in the woods! That must be where we began our passion for gardening later on. You will be missed.
