September 01, 1934~September 29, 2024

Goldie H. Roberts was born in Athens, Greece on September 1, 1934. When Goldie and her siblings were young girls, the family moved to the United States. They settled in Cross City, Florida where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Dixie County high school class of 1952. Her father opened Henry’s restaurant. She later moved to Tarpon Springs, Florida. Wednesday the 25th Goldie was at home with her daughter Eve and great-granddaughter Chloee, when she had a cardiovascular accident that sent her to the hospital. In the early morning hours of September 29, 2024, she peacefully passed away with her granddaughter Goldie and daughter Collete by her side. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles E. Mathis “Chuck”, sister’s Sylvia Nomicos and Diana Petropoulos, daughter Patricia D. Osteen “Patsy”, son’s Buddy Osteen and Mike Osteen, Grandson Robert A. McDaniel. Goldie is survived by her sister’s Frances Kennedy (Ben) and Toni Henry (Camille), her daughter’s Eve McDaniel and Collette Reyes, son Chris Walker and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Goldie lived a very colorful life, full of love. She could light up any room with her smile and sense of humor. To know her was to love her.

Goldie might have been born in Greece; but she grew up in a small town and acquired a country accent. People could not believe she was from Greece. Everyone always thought she was from Georgia, and she never denied it.

As a young woman and single mother of six wonderful children, she worked several jobs to provide for her children. When she met the love of her life; Chuck, she had three jobs. She drove a cab, bartended, and she worked at Winn-Dixie in the meat department. Chuck used to go to all three of her jobs to try and get her bosses to fire her. However, Goldie was a dedicated worker and none of her bosses would let her go. Goldie was employed at Winn-Dixie for sixty-six years; she was the manager of the seafood department for several years. She loved her job, and she loved her customers. They always looked to Goldie for service. Goldie continued to work at Winn-Dixie up until June of 2024.

Goldie loved her family and friends. She lived her life to the fullest; and she always knew how to make you smile. She was generous to a fault. If she felt she could help someone, she would, often to her detriment. Her heart was huge. Her love was big. I am sure she is in heaven reunited with all her loved ones, jitterbugging and smiling down on us today.

Due to Hurricane Milton and uncontrollable circumstances, the services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Goldie was such a good worker and fun to be around. She was so kind and ran circles around the kids. She knew her job well and people would stand in long lines to get Goldie’s famous seafood meals freshly prepared with her trademark cooking. She always made me and everyone who talked with her laugh and always told it like it was. Goldie invited me to her home and was always hospitable. I always came home with a story Goldie had told me. I know Goldie is making the angels seafood meals and making them laugh. I will miss you Goldie! God Bless You Goldie and your family!
