July 03, 1948~September 29, 2024

Frederick Hauber, M.D., age 76, passed away on September 29, 2024, at his favorite place, home, in Crystal Beach, FL.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Michael H. Hauber and Cecilia Azinger, Frederick “Fritz” Hauber earned his B.S from the University of Pittsburgh and he then attended the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He moved to Tampa, Florida, where he completed his ophthalmology residency and training at the University of South Florida.

An ophthalmologist for over 40 years, Fritz founded the Pasco Eye Institute; later, he attended the Harvard Business School OPM program to further his practice. He was known for the kindness, compassion, and expertise with which he treated his patients and staff. He had numerous outstanding academic and career achievements, such as registration of various patents, publication to medical journals, and lecturing abroad.

Innately curious about the world-at-large, Fritz was a passionate, dedicated man who travelled extensively. He volunteered in underserved communities both locally and internationally, from the Good Samaritan Clinic nearby to embarking on medical missions to Jucuapa, El Salvador.

A devoted father to Alex and Ericka, his daughters were his most important priority. He made sure to introduce them to the many wonders of life, which was fostered by an astute, thorough knowledge of history and experience traveling.  He created treasured, lifelong friendships throughout these journeys. He had an abiding appreciation of the arts and was an avid reader; many appreciated his wide breadth of knowledge and humorous, quick wit. He was also an animal lover, and cherished his two cats, Milo and Prussia. His caring presence will be deeply missed.

Fritz is survived by his two daughters, Alex and Ericka. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy, as well as his niece and nephews, Theresa, Andrew, and Matthew.

In lieu of sending flowers, a donation in his name can be made to the Little Cats’ Rescue, located in New Port Richey, FL.

Arrangements for his service have been made by Dobies Funeral Home located in Tarpon Springs, FL.

Fritz and I were friends in Memphis during medical school.

We travelled to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby and I also travelled with him to his beloved Pittsburgh to meet his college friends and watch the mighty Pitt panthers football team. (Pitt lost.)

I’m sorry to get this news, especially so close to our class reunion at U. Tennessee for our 60th Golden Grads reunion and celebration coming at the end of October.

Fritz obviously had a successful professional career and a fulfilling family life. A life well lived.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Hauber these past few years after he joined us at Suncoast Eye Center. He was so compassionate and caring with his patients and remembered their personal stories and always asked about their families, they truly loved and respected him. We had many heartfelt chats and I will miss my days with him. We will keep the candy dish filled!

I have known your Father for over forty years and the memories flood through me . I remember when he cut his leg and gave me instructions on how to sew it up . Quick surgical instructions!
I love both of you and please know I am there for you!
Love you

I was so sorry to hear that Fritz had passed. As a fellow physician , I was impressed by his
compassion for his patients, and his knowledge of ophthalmology. I could tell he was the kind of physician who cared for his patients, and was focused on doing what was best for their care.

He was fun to talk with, and had a wide range of interests and knowledge. My sympathy to his family and colleagues.

Fritz Hauber I want you write you here something in German words.
“Alex Hauber
Hi Gerhard. Thanks so much. Dad’s number is 727 643 4448. His email address is [email protected]. However, I don’t know how useful those will be, as he died September 29th.”

Ich habe es zuerst gar nicht verstanden.
Jetzt muss ich es auch glauben und verstehen.
Wer weiss ?
Vielleicht auf Wiedersehen Fritz ?

My condolences to you girls. I worked with your dad at Rowan Eye Center and was also a patient of his. I used to take care of his dogs when he was out of town and I always admired his art collection. I met you girls every year during Chasco.
Fritz was an extremely intelligent man and always so sweet to me. Sorry to have missed the service but the hurricane made it impossible to get back.
