Glenda Ramirez, 82, of New Port Richey, Florida, went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2024, after an extended illness. Born on December 1, 1942, in Glasgow, Kentucky, Glenda was the cherished daughter of Selby and Mary Lohden.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years Gabriel “Frank” Ramirez, daughters Sheila Smith of Louisville, KY, Shannon Peacock of Tarpon Springs, FL, step-daughter Janet Wiegner of Novi, MI, step-sons Steve Ramirez of New Palestine, IN and Rick Ramirez of Greenwood, IN. Grandchildren are Jazmin Smith of Louisville, KY, Thomas Ramirez of Chicago, IL, Kristina Wiegner of Kalamazoo, MI and Hannah Wiegner of West Lafayette, IN. Glenda was preceded in death by two brothers Aylette and Andy Lohden, and three sisters, Ruby, Wilma, and Earlene.
Before Glenda started a career in cosmetology, she volunteered with Louie Nunn’s successful campaign for Kentucky governor in 1967, helping voters get to the polls. Her passion for politics continued into her final days.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Glenda served as director of the School of Hair Design in Louisville, Kentucky. After that, she became a realtor and interior designer in Southern Indiana before retiring to New Port Richey, Florida with her husband in 2003.
Glenda was a member of several churches over the years, including Wesley Chapel in New Albany, Indiana, where she served on the missions planning board and traveled to Honduras and Mexico to help on plumbing projects. Additionally, she was an auxiliary member of The Gideon’s International.
Glenda continued to stay active in church and loved to sew quilts, gifting them to family and friends. While Kentucky Wildcats basketball was her sports love, she once got caught up in auto racing, so-to-speak, when she was chosen to drive the pace-car at the Charlestown, Indiana Speedway, with NASCAR champion Darrell Waltrip in the passenger seat waving the American Flag.
Glenda will be dearly missed by her loved ones. She wanted everyone to know that simple faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.

My passionate, fun, and loving mother-in-law. Glenda, I will miss you. I am thankful for all of the time I spent with you and regret not spending more time together. I loved the passion you had for Christ, sewing, and politics! I will wrap myself in one of the quilts you made me, sip on some iced tea, and enjoy the conversations we had. I know you are in paradise, and I know one day, I will see you for eternity. Rest peacefully in the arms of Jesus. I love you.

Dad, Shannon, Sheila and Jazmin,
I am so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in your memories of Glenda and in knowing that she is in heaven. I appreciate that she shared her talents by making us beautiful dresses, ponchos and quilts. We enjoyed the recipes she shared and the meals she cooked for us during our visits. I also appreciate that she made a lovely home for you Dad, and that you both had many years of happiness together. Rest in peace Glenda.
