Mark was born in Houston Texas, attended the University of Texas Medical School, 1984, an internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Houston, TX, 1984-1985, was chief resident of Ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical Center, Norfolk, VA, 1988 and completed his fellowship at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in 1989. Mark held a State of Florida Medical License and was a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1989. He was also Board Certified by the American Board of Eye Surgery in the Sub-specialty of Cataract / Implant Surgery. Mark belonged to many professional associations, volunteered to help people medically but was most proud of his time volunteering at the Salvation Army cooking and serving many people.
Mark was a long time resident of Bradenton, Florida and partner at The Eye Associates of Manatee from 1989 to 2010. After retiring, Dr. D became an Affiliate Assistant Professor and Instructor at the University of South Florida Department Of Ophthalmology Surgery Laboratory from January of 2011- 2020. And a short time with the University of Florida Department Of Ophthalmology creating a wet-lab. During this time he co-authored many publications, educational presentations and worked on numerous clinical research studies with residents, fellows and other doctors.
He loved living on the water, boating, fishing, playing golf and shooting guns. His faith in Christ was at the center of his soul. Mark was very proud of his two children and the adults they have become. It broke his heart to leave this earth before he could see his family grow. He will forever be in our hearts and soul. We will be together again, not in this life but in the next. I love you Mark forever and always, Jessie.
