Stephen Johnson, aged 95, passed away peacefully in his home in Florida on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Stephen lived a life marked by service and dedication. He proudly served in the US Navy, embodying courage and commitment. After his military service, he married in 1953 and moved to Shoreham, New York. He worked in the family business, Flanders Sheet Metal, for many years and eventually became co-owner. Steve was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Vickie, who passed away in 1998.
After retiring and growing tired of cold winters, he decided to move to the Sunshine State, where he could enjoy the warmth and sunny days all year long.
Steve and Vickie’s legacy lives on through their family, who will remember them for their unwavering love, wisdom, and the countless memories they created together.
He leaves to cherish his memory five children: Debbie, Diane (Doug), Danny, Dale (Michael), and Dina (Craig); nine grandchildren: Kyle, Kyleen (Philippe), Chase, Bailey, Erin, Samantha, Michael Jr., Brittney, and Kensi; two grand pups: Vader and Ace; four great-grand pups: Dan, Archie, Mirabelle, and Ranni and four great-grand kitties: Dane, Millie, Poncho, and Kayak, along with a host of other relatives and dear friends. Steve had a special fondness for his family’s pets, and walking dogs was one of his favorite activities.
Stephen Johnson was a man of principles and was humble, dependable, and deeply rooted in who he was. He was a testament to resilience and enjoying the simple things in life. In true New Yorker fashion, Stephen’s quick wit and humor were unparalleled; his hilarious stories always had everyone laughing and challenging him to a crossword puzzle or a game of Scrabble was never a good idea. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on April 12th at Dobies in Tarpon Springs, Florida, and April 26th at Alexander Rothwell in Wading River, New York, where he will be buried alongside his beloved wife, Vickie.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his honor to Homes Fur Hounds, Inc. in Williamsburg, VA. This rescue and sanctuary is operated by a family friend of nearly 40 years, who has dedicated her life to saving animals, including one of his grandpups.
