Robert W. Jones, 73, of New Port Richey, FL, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
Known to his friends and family as Bob, he was born on September 22, 1952, in Tarentum, PA and raised in Natrona Heights, PA. Son of Neva Bricker and William J. Jones, he was the youngest of four brothers: William R., William J., and Thomas E. Jones. His father passed away shortly after his birth, and he was raised by his mother and brother Tom, who he looked up to as a father figure. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, and swimming at their local watering holes and lakes.
As a boy, Bob attained his Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts, evidence of his love of the outdoors. He graduated from Highlands High School and Allegheny Community College. He moved to Florida to attend the University of South Florida. Once in Florida, he discovered newfound interests in skydiving and scuba diving.
Bob earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice after which he began a successful 28-year career at Clearwater Police Department in 1980, working his way up to Sergeant and then Captain. Following retirement, he continued his service to the department as a civilian managing the communications center until 2015.
Bob married the love of his life, Lori, in 1989. They were married for 36 years and raised two sons, Jason and Ryan. He shared his affinity for the outdoors with his family, taking them on camping trips, yearly trips to Pennsylvania, and summering lakeside at their cottage in Maine.
Even after moving to Florida, he remained a die-hard Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers fan – his Terrible Towel was always on full display during games. He was also a proud Corvette owner and enjoyed going fast with the top down.
Bob is survived by his wife Lori; sons Jason and Ryan; sister-in-law Elaine; nephew Sean and his wife Stephanie, along with their two children Connor and Callie.

Always enjoyed working with you. You were a great cop, supervisor and had a great sense of humor. Your memory will live on with your brothers and sisters in blue. Gone too soon, rest in peace.
