John “Johnny” Lacy, 60, passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2026. His sudden passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of his family, friends, coworkers, and the many people whose lives he quietly touched through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others.

Born and raised in Bridgeport, New York, John was the middle child of Robert and Anna Lacy. He grew up learning the value of hard work, responsibility, and dedication from his father, Robert W. Lacy, who owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store. John carried those lessons with him throughout his life, approaching every job not simply as an employee, but with the pride, commitment, and sense of ownership that defined his remarkable work ethic.

John was employed by Pepin Distributing Company in Tampa, Florida, where he recently celebrated his 27th anniversary with the company. His coworkers affectionately referred to him as their real-life “MacGyver.” Whether he was receiving deliveries, repairing equipment, fixing a scrubber, or finding an inventive solution to an unexpected problem, John had an extraordinary ability to figure things out. He was the person others relied on because he always seemed to know what needed to be done before anyone even asked. His creativity, mechanical talent, and willingness to step in wherever he was needed earned him the respect and admiration of everyone who worked alongside him.

Outside of work, Johnny had an enormous love for animals. His compassion extended well beyond his own pets, as he was known for caring for wildlife and helping animals wherever he encountered them. His gentle heart and concern for all living creatures reflected the kind of person he was—selfless, caring, and always ready to lend a helping hand.

John was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Lacy, in 2018.

He is survived by his loving mother, Anna Lacy of Bridgeport, New York; his brother, Michael R. Lacy of New Port Richey, Florida; his sister, Mary-Ann Davis (Tim) of Syracuse, New York; and his nephew, Austin Lacy of New Port Richey, Florida. He also leaves behind many extended family members, dear friends, and coworkers who will deeply miss his steady presence, generous spirit, and unforgettable ability to solve almost any problem.

There are many animals waiting to greet Johnny at the Rainbow Bridge. Leading the pack are Bear, Rocky Dog, Zoey, Scooby, and Shorty Boy. It is comforting to imagine the joyful reunion as they come running to welcome him home.

In lieu of services, John’s family encourages those who knew and loved him to honor his memory by performing an act of kindness, helping an animal in need, or making a donation to a local animal rescue or wildlife rehabilitation organization in his name.

There will be a celebration of life in mid to late November at his childhood home in Bridgeport, NY.
