Irene (Eirene Gavakos) Gregory,80, of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away peacefully at the HPH Hospice Home due to complications of Dementia. She is survived by her two loving daughters; Betty Townsend, husband Hugh; and Jane Kyprianou, husband Kypro; as well as her beloved grand and great-grandchildren; Christina Ruvelas, husband Gregory and daughters Demi and Dina; George Kyprianou, daughter Eliana; Irene Miller, husband Chris and son Zachary; Chris Kyprianou; and Alex Kyprianou. She is also survived by her sisters Popi Kostopoulou, husband John; Theoni Moschopoulou; and brother Elias Gavakos, wife Eleni. She is predeceased by her loving husband Chris of 57 years, three brothers, and one sister.
She was born in St. John, in the region of Sparta, Greece. Irene was a 1959 Honors graduate of Seamstress School in Greece. She immigrated to America with her husband in 1962. Irene became a U.S. citizen in 1967. She raised her family and was a Seamstress at bridal shops and high-end department stores in New Jersey until her retirement. She moved to Florida and was active in the Greek Community and St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Irene was unwavering in her faith and love of God. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother.
She will always be remembered as a fashionable dresser as well as for her baking and cooking skills by family and friends. Her parents named her Irene, the word for peace in Greek, as World War II had just begun in Greece.
She will always be missed but not forgotten for her devotion to family and friends by those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Donations to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
