Benjamin F. Martin

August 26, 1979~June 19, 2021

Benjamin Frederick Martin (41) of New Port Richey, Florida passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 19, 2021, peacefully in his residence. Ben is the son of Charles “Fred” Martin and Ann Geeting Martin. Benjamin was born on August 26, 1979, in Springfield, Ohio, and was a graduate of Shawnee High School, class of 1998. Ben and his family also resided for many years in Dayton, Ohio. Ben was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Martin. Survivors include his father, Fred Martin, and significant other, Barbara Wells. Ben has been married to his loving wife, Mary Martin (Maxwell) for 17 years. Together they are the proud parents of Nicklaus F. Martin (15) and Christopher T. Martin (14). Ben worked for Pasco County and enjoyed the “salt life” with his family in Florida. The beach was their happy place and he loved the role of “Boat Captain”. Ben was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing. His dogs Jessie and Olivia were always by his side. Ben’s personality was larger than life. He loved to talk and to him, no one was a stranger. He always had a story to tell or a joke to share. Ben had the biggest heart and to him, family always came first.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021, at noon at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1801 St. Paris Pike, Springfield, Ohio. A visitation for family and friends will be held before the service from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ben’s honor to The Humane Society of Greater Dayton, or The Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Partnership

Ben was one of the nicest people that you ever wanted to meet. Loved having Ben. Mary and the boys as our backyard neighbors. Always had a smile on his face and never heard him raise his voice. He was the consummate family man and loved the weekend so they could enjoy themselves. It was sad to develop such a close bond only have them move to Florida, but a joy to see that they were really happy and living their “best life”. When they came back to visit, they made sure to stop past, which makes the memories priceless to me. Godspeed, Ben…..you will be missed!!

Mary, Nick, and Chris,

I know that I do not have the right words to ease anything you’re going through right now and the days to come. I do know that I love you dearly and am so sorry. Yes, Ben, was truly loved and had a HUGE personality that anyone who knew him will always remember. In my sadness, I have even laughed at some of the things he did and said while working with you (Mary) at the ELC at Trotwood City Schools. I know through your sadness, you will do the same. God never changes. Lean into Him. He has you covered. Much Love Always, Deneen

We haven’t know Ben very long, but in the short time we’ve had the pleasure of knowing him, he was a genuinely nice person. From the moment the Martin’s moved to Florida, we became friends and enjoyed time with them. Ben was always quick witted, jokeful, and loved to talk to all people. A true friend indeed, and he will truly be missed. Our Condolences go out to Mary, Nick, Chris, and all his family and close friends. Rest In Peace Ben.

I didn’t know Ben very well, but in the short time I did he made a lasting impression. Anyone that he came in contact with seemed to immediately become a friend. In the few times we had conversations, we would chat about our kids and spouses. He gleamed when speaking about his wife and kids. He seemed so gentle and kind and full of fun. I don’t know his family, but please know that my heart is with you during this time.

Words can not express the how much you will be missed Ben. You were a great coworker, but, a better friend. I will miss our riddles, meme wars, jokes, advice, suggestions and just sharing our adventures. There will be no more trading homemade tamales for homemade beef jerky.

I can’t accept that you have earned your wings so early in life, but, sadly you have. Rest in Peace. Continue to watch over your family and friends. YOU are already EXTREMELY MISSED.

Hey, Mary. I know we haven’t spoke since high school, but the time spent with Ben back then has always been such a warm memory I’ve kept throughout all these years. His spirit, laughter, and personality were truly Godsend…as you already knew. I’m so glad he kept in touch with my brother, Ryan, and even made it down to Sarasota to catch one of his music shows. Ben is a Springfield Legend! I send all my love and many, many prayers.

Even those who you may have known for just a short time can leave an ever lasting mark. Ben’s personality; kind, funny, and down to earth, will live on in all of those who had been blessed enough to know him. Rest now my friend.

Hi Mary,

It’s been a few years since I saw you and Ben in Springfield around Christmas time. When I got the news a week after Ben had passed I was in shock like everyone. I immediately remembered all of the good old times we had together in High School and after and became very sad. Ben was such a good guy and always someone I wanted to be around and party with. So many good memories! I will miss him!
