David R. Strauss, went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2021, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. David, more commonly known as “Dave”, but more affectionately known as “Uncle Dave” by many. However he was known, this wild man entered this world on June 30th, 1953, the very same day the first Corvette rolled off the assembly line (he was very proud of that fact) in South Bend, Indiana.
Dave grew up in the Los Angeles area of Southern California, where he developed a true passion for the outdoors, scuba diving in the Pacific, camping in the Mojave, or hiking in the Sierras and Red Woods. He developed a keen bond with the elements in which he found himself. Dave’s life was undoubtedly a myriad of great experiences filled with adventure, wonderful memories, and sincere down-to-earth relationships that lasted a lifetime.
Dave was one of the toughest, strongest, and sometimes even most stubborn guys you could ever have the pleasure of knowing. In knowing Dave, however, you would also know the true nature of a friend, family member, and confidant who exhibited genuine selflessness and would do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat. He would always take the time to get to know people, ask them about their lives, not because it was simply polite, but because he truly cared without feeling obligated. He really was the truest definition of a people person. Dave, a man of many talents, settled in Virginia for a few years, and after quite a while in the corporate setting, he started his own company, Quest Home Maintenance. He developed a devout client base with Quest. In 1998, he met the love of his life, Donna, who was initially a client as well. Prior to relocating to Florida to his final and most comfortable home in 2006, he enjoyed the chop and sea spray on his boat, the “Desert Moon” as he would cruise around the York River and the Chesapeake Bay with those he was closest with. Dave was a steward of good food, good jokes, and a good time with good people.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Harry; his mother, Margaret; and his sister, Nancy. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his sister, Melinda (Greg); nephews, Adam (Orphie), Jarid (Katie), and Rodger (Meaghan); great-nieces and nephews, Paige, Reiley, Brooke, Charlotte, and Wyatt.
Dave will be missed beyond words. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Outreach Association for Finding Bigfoot! OH-YEA!
A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined.
