Albert James Dort

Albert James Dort

May 05, 1960~October 28, 2021

Albert Dort, 61 of Tampa Florida passed away on October 28, 2021. He is survived by his wife Demetra Dort, his brother Jimmy Dort (his wife Aly Dort), sister Mary Barnes, nephews Joey Dort, Ryan Heard, Michael Heard, and Hunter Dort and niece Meg West along with many other family members. He lived in Apollo Beach and worked with The Mosaic Company before marrying his wife Michelle Demetra Mouhourtis. He loved the peace and quiet of Apollo and enjoyed watching the beautiful sunsets. Al was born in Orange New Jersey on May 5, 1960, and then moved to Florida and resided in Polk County until he graduated from Mulberry High School. He was in the Navy and was obsessed with submarines. Al was a creative thinker and an entrepreneur. Although Al had no children, he absolutely adored his fur babies. We have had many shelties during our marriage that he loved and pampered. The three shelties we currently have are Pepper, Shelbie, and Jamie II. He would always say “It’s always a good day when you can walk your dog.” His second love was baseball. He was a huge Tampa Bay Rays fan and had a good friend Dave McCarthy who he loved discussing baseball with. As a husband, Al was the best. He took me to destinations that I would have never dreamed that I would get to see. The last thing he planned for us was to build a dream home in Homosassa with Sweetwater Homes. They were amazing to Al, especially Andy Phaneuf and Steve Ponticos. We were just about to start a new life there, but God had other plans. He is now pain free and whole again where he is with his loving sisters Diana and Patty and mother Peggy. I am also sure that he has gone to the Rainbow bridge to reunite with all our fur babies. I will always remember his love of life and his contagious smile. Smiles to you my loving Al.

Dear Demi & Family,
There are no words that will comfort you in this time of deep sorrow. Al is in your heart, his love will help you for the rest of your life. His love for you is boundless, he wanted to be sure you were as happy as possible and make your dreams come true. You are the love of his life and you were his. He is now perfect, healthy, happy with all of the people and fur babies in your lives. It is so very unfair we can’t even glimpse the perfection or Grace he is enjoying in Heaven. Know God’s love Demi, believe the beauty of Al’s new home. I pray for you and Al, hoping a small measure of peace enters your heart and fills your spirit.

The thing I loved the most about Al was how much he loved Michelle. All he ever wanted was to make her happy. Through good times and bad, he was always there to put a smile on her face. Al was not only adored by humans, he had a special place in his heart for fur babies too. Al was selfless when it came to other peoples needs, he was always there for whoever needed him. He will be truly missed by everyone whose heart he touched.

To my Wonderful Sister Demetra, I’m so sorry for the loss of your Husband Al. I know you loved and cared for him so much and it’s hard to see you hurt this way. All I can tell you is that Al would want you to continue living your life to the fullest and to fulfill all those goals and dreams that he had planned with you because that’s what he would want. Al used to tell me that he was so lucky to have you in his life because no matter what you were always there for him for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish until death do us part. Sis you upheld those words according to God’s Holy Ordinance and Al will always remember you for that as he is watching down on you from Heaven! He had a huge heart and tried to help so many people., The love he had for you and those shelties truly defined what kind of person he was. If you want to keep AL’s memory and spirit alive, continue to do things that would make him happy. I love you very much and will always be here for you.

Al is my cousin. My mother was the oldest sister of the three, with Peggy, Al’s mother being the youngest. It was such a shock to hear this news. Our family has endured multiple losses within this past year, and this one was very unexpected as well. Growing up, all of the cousins were fairly close. Getting together for birthdays and certain holidays both in NJ and here in Florida. Al was a bit older than myself, closer to my brother’s age, so I did not hang with him when we were younger, as much as I did his sister Mary. I can tell you that Al was a great guy, and we are deeply saddened by his passing. My prayers and well wishes go out to his loving wife, sibliings, and to the rest of our family. Godspeed Al. I am heartbroken for Demetra. Al was a very loving person. I enjoyed sitting next to him for 6 seasons at the Ray’s games. Even though he would talk with a mouthful of peanuts.🥰 I kept telling him we were going to go to a Lightning game together and I can’t believe it won’t happen. I’m sad but happy his suffering is over. He loved his dogs and most of all Demetra. Thank you for the memories. Rest in peace my friend.

First met Al on May 5,2005,and I knew Michelle Demetra 18 yrs.by then. Al was a good man. He was always thinking of what was best for her. We talked and both of them were giving and hard workers. He wanted the best for her. She is a wife that he adored. There love was selfless. Al is now safely home in heaven…no more pain or suffering. My dear friend you will miss him, but you still have more of your journey. I love you.

Al and I attended U.S. Navy submarine training classes held in Groton, Connecticut. Al was a friend of mine who I lost touch with. We were stationed with a large group of guys preparing to be members of the U.S. submarine fleet. I’m so sorry that he passed so young. He was a good friend, and an intelligent guy, and a real people-person. We were in a class studying electronics and he was good at it. He told all of us about Cocoa Beach – it sounded wonderful. I’m in Florida now and I thought to look him up and I’m sorry I missed a chance to reconnect with him. I always knew he had a promising future and I’m so glad he had a loving family around him. We offer sincere condolences and know he is in a good place.
