It is with great sadness that the family of Goldie T. Smirlis announce that she went to be with the Lord on November 26th, 2021, at the age of 100 years. She was a native of Tarpon Springs, the loving wife of Costas S. Smirlis, and daughter to Vasilios (Margaret) Tsalichis who predeceased her.
Goldie’s dedication to her family and friends was her sole passion in life. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who found her greatest joy in taking care of others. Goldie was an active member of the Greek community and a proud member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
She was honored to be a part of the historical Smirlis Bakery and all that the bakery meant to the community for three generations. It would take an entire novel to unfold the 100 years of Goldie’s life and how she genuinely lived by the “Golden Rule.”
Beloved “YiaYia” Goldie will be lovingly remembered by her children, son Steve (Yvonne) Smirlis, granddaughter Renae (Jon) Simonds, great-grandchildren Caitlyn & Jonny, and her daughter Marguerite Smirlis, grandchildren Chrysoula, Maria, John (Johnna) Tsangarinos, and great-grandchildren Jaigh & Gianna, as well as, her loving sister Mary Manuel, sons John (Angie) Manuel, Nicholas & Logan, and Billy (Michelle) Manuel.
Goldie will be dearly missed by her adoring family and all who knew her.
May her memory be eternal.

Aunt Goldie was always one of our favorite Aunts. She was so kind and full of fun and love for her family. She made the best lamb stew which she brought to the bakery to share with us for lunch. She hosted the rehearsal dinner at her house when Dave and I were married. We still have the beautiful punch bowl wedding gift given by Aunt Goldie. It holds a special place in our entryway table. Dave, Lari and I will always have wonderful memories of Aunt Goldie. The last of the Smirlis Bakery family has now passed away. It is a sad time, indeed. Angela Smirlis Becker
