Anna Hogan

November 19, 1928~February 07, 2022

Anna F. Hogan (nee Smith), 93, of Tarpon Springs, passed away February 7, 2022 peacefully with her family by her side.  Anna was born in Brooklyn, NY and had 1 brother, Harold Smith, who predeceased her.  Anna worked for Westinghouse Electric as a Department Supervisor.  She was predeceased by her most beloved husband (2007), Bob, they were married for 47 years.  They moved to Staten Island, NY where they lived for 22 years.  In 1966 they had 1 child, Robbie, also predeceased (2020), the absolute love of her life.  With Robbie, her world changed; she was devoted to membership and service for handicapped children of many organizations – both in NY and Florida.  She found a world she had never dreamed of with Robbie.  Anna is survived by her nieces and nephews: Thomas (Dorothy) Cunningham, Patricia (Chuck) Vitello, Barbara (John) Flynn, Michael Smith, Billy (Tricia) Smith, Patricia Ann (Steven) Elfstrom and Dorothy Cunningham.  Anna is also survived by 18 great nieces & nephews and 7 great-great nieces and nephews.

Anna and her beloved family moved to Port Richey in 1982 and then to Tarpon Springs in 1997.  She was a parishioner of Saint Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church in Tarpon Springs.  Anna loved doing crafts and sewing – from making clothes to altering and repairing.  As much as she loved her gifted hobbies – nothing brought her more love and pleasure than taking her Robbie “out to eat” and “shop to you drop” days.  She made many great friends through Robbie’s introductions…… a great blessing to them both.

Anna was a woman of Great Faith, she believed in doing service and being charitable.  Anna was a Eucharistic Minister and started attending Our Lady of Divine Providence House of Prayer soon after her move to Port Richey.  She volunteered at The House of Faith (a Ministry within the House of Prayer) for families with special needs children.  Anna helped with service for the Retreats held at The House of Prayer.  She also served as Sacristan and Receptionist at the House of Prayer.  She quietly laundered and ironed altar linens there and was always willing to offer any other kind of help they might have been in need of.

She was a woman of deep faith who followed God’s Will in her life.  She made sacrifices and did not often question the things in her life, a life she lived with great humility and acceptance.

In 1988, Anna became a Marian Servant of Divine Providence and she made a Lifetime Commitment in 1999.  Until her very last days, Anna went to the House of Prayer whenever she could; the last mass she attend there was during her last week before she went into the hospital.

One of her favorite things to do was to pray – she prayed for everyone she knew.  Even for people she did not know, but knew they needed prayers.  Anna had a gift of spreading her faith to all people.  Her other favorite thing to do in her last years was to watch EWTN; she attended Spiritual Communions, prayed novenas, rosaries and very much enjoyed watching and listening to Mother Angelica’s Live Classics, as well as other programs.

She will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends.  The love and guidance she gave will be irreplaceable.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 19th at Saint Ignatius of Antioch, Tarpon Springs.  Her internment will immediately follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clearwater Florida.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Seasons Hospice Foundation Donation Processing Center, 8537 Solution Center, Chicago, Illinois 60677.  Donations can also be sent to Our Lady of Divine Providence, 711 S. Bayview Avenue, Clearwater, Florida 33759
