Brian Joseph Gates, 60, of Hudson, Florida passed away on February 15th, 2022. He is survived by his wife Kathy Gates; children Elizabeth Proctor, Michael Gaffney; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers James Gates, Henry Gates. Preceded in death by son Peter Gaffney.
When I die
Give what’s left of me away
To children
And old men that wait to die.
And if you need to cry,
Cry for your brother
Walking the street beside you.
And when you need me,
Put your arms
Around anyone
And give them
What you need to give to me.
I want to leave you something,
Something better
Than words
Or sounds.
Look for me
In the people I’ve known
Or loved,
And if you cannot give me away,
At least let me live on in your eyes
And not your mind.
You can love me most
By letting
Hands touch hands,
By letting bodies touch bodies,
And by letting go
Of children
That need to be free.
Love doesn’t die,
People do.
So, when all that’s left of me
Is love,
Give me away.

Brian truly was one of a kind. I worked with him over 30 years at St. Luke’s. He was one of the hardest workers there. We had so much fun in the old days and Brian was always there to help clean up after our many water battles. He never complained….he always did whatever was asked of him. He will be dearly missed. My condolences to his wife, Kathy, and the rest of his family. Prayers for comfort and peace. 🙏❤🙏

I met Brian while working at St. Luke’s. From the very beginning, I knew that Brian was a genuine person. What you saw was what you got. He was a hard worker, always ready to help anyone. Brian always spoke his mind, he never
sugar coasted anything. There was always a smile on his face, a joke to lighten your day or a funny remark to make you chuckle. The world has lost a wonderful, caring person. My deepest sympathies to Kathy and his family.
