Laura and Mike,

I can only imagine what you’re going through now. Words do a poor job filling the emotional void left by the passing of your mom. I hope you find the proper time, space and support system to grieve, and integrate all the love Aunt Smitty gave you and the legacy she left for all of us.

I always thought Aunt Smitty was the real Mrs. Cleaver. She was the quintessential throwback of an American housewife from the black and white era. Her well mannered, sweet, and kind persona always created a refreshing lightness while in her company, much like the tropical vistas that were the subjects of her paintings.

I hope Aunt Smitty and my mom are clinking martinis and listening to some Frank Sinatra. I always appreciated the quality friendship our moms shared and enjoyed. I always remember your mom giving me the chance to volunteer at the haunted trail in Chicago and play Dracula one year and Frankenstein another. That was so much fun.

Big hugs,

Adam

Dear Michael & Laura ~

Sending my deepest sympathy to both of you in the loss of your dear Mother, Smitty.
Wasn’t aware of her passing until I made my annual Christmas call to your Uncle Bob Meizio.
Never end our conversation without asking about Uncle Del & Mom.
So, let me explain my relationship.
Although not blood related, close relationship with your family through mine
My cousin John Krahulec Jr. was cousins with your Dad & brothers.
His dad my Uncle John Sr., was married to my Mom’s sister my Aunt Emily ~ hopefully you’re able to connect the dots.
Your mom was nothing but elegant ~ Loving, giving with a warm heart.
Babysitter for both of you, in Chicago (on Cornelia).
Many years have passed and definitely more will, but Mom will always be fondly remembered.
