The Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Homes are all locally owned and operated by Thomas B. Dobies.
Tom was born on December 30th 1952 and raised in Tarpon Springs, FL. He has been serving the community as a funeral director/embalmer since 1975. He opened his first funeral home in Holiday, FL in 1979, and later built his home behind it. Fifteen years later, he purchased a beautiful piece of property on the corner of Indiana Avenue and Congress Street in New Port Richey, FL, where he opened his second funeral home in 1995. Soon after, he found property in his native Tarpon Springs, and opened his third funeral home there in 1996. Realizing the growing demand for Cremation services, he built a funeral home and crematory in Hudson, FL in 1998. In 2007, Tom saw another dream realized when he opened the fifth location on Old CR 54 in the Seven Springs community.
In the wake of the passing of his beloved dog Lucy in 2012, Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Homes offers pet loss services to our community through “Pets at Peace”. In addition to offering immediate response and dignified pet cremation services, we offer special pet tributes and grief support. Tom will never forget Lucy’s impact and knows that our pets are our family.
In the Fall of 2020 Tom broke ground on an expanded cremation facility next door to the Hudson chapel. Once completed it will have a state of the art Crematory. This expanded capacity will allow The Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Homes to give world class service to even more families throughout Pasco, Hernando and Pinellas counties. It’s estimated completion date is Spring 2021.
Tom has seen many changes in the funeral industry since he became a funeral director. The most significant of these changes has been the shift from private independent ownership to corporate ownership. Corporate funeral homes may retain former owners to give the community the impression of ‘locally owned’. However, this perception tends to be in name only. The corporate entity that has true ownership is the one making the decisions. Those decisions usually involve taking personalized service out of the funeral business in favor of cookie cutter service and ever increasing costs. Some have gone so far as to use high pressure sales tactics and bloated pricing structures in order to get the most ‘return on family’. These practices are not what Tom Dobies is about. Tom believes that personalized service is about getting to know people, being available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and catering to the needs of each and every family that has entrusted him, and the organization, with the care of their loved one.
Tom knows that relationships are the bedrock of a community. To that end Tom is very involved in the community and has supported hundreds of local organizations through the years with his time and treasure. He is known and trusted throughout the Tampa Bay area, especially in Pasco, Pinellas and Hernando counties. He currently sits on the board of directors for several organizations including Morton Plant North Bay Hospital. He knows that the service excellence is why people trust him, the funeral directors and the associates at Dobies Funeral homes and Crematory.
Tom Dobies and his staff have over a century of experience of personalized service and a deep commitment to upholding their professional standards well into the future. They are committed to giving the most dedicated and compassionate funeral service available.
