Ann M. (nee O’Rourke) Twigg, a resident of Beacon Woods, Bayonet Point, Florida, formerly of Bayport, NY and Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018 in Bayonet Point Hospital at the age of 90 years, surrounded by many family members.
Born at home on Fillmore Ave in Brooklyn, to parents John F O’Rourke of Brooklyn, and Delia (Ann) Feeney of Roslyn, NY, she attended PS 222, Church of the Good Shepherd Catholic Academy, and Bishop McDonnell HS for Girls in Brooklyn. She was working at John Wiley and Sons Publishing in Manhattan when she met her future husband George Twigg. They eloped in Elkton, MD in 1950 and lived for 5 years in Bayridge, where they had two girls. They then moved to Bayport, Long Island and had three more children. Ann spent some of those years working as quality control for a record press company.
They relocated in 1984 to Florida, where she would spend the majority of her life. She found a new career as a real estate agent there, an easy task since she always enjoyed an interest in home sales as a hobby. Her and George renewed their wedding vows on August 18, 1994 at St James the Apostle Catholic Church in Port Richey, FL
She was widowed in 2000, but managed to keep her home well groomed inside and out. Ann trimmed hedges, tended her beautiful plant collection, and did other chores until recently. Other talents included art and music. She had a fine sense of humor, a wonderful singing voice, and could recall thousands of songs at will. She held a near photographic memory which she used every night as the uncrowned Queen of the “Jeopardy†TV game show and as the family historian. She remained in steady contact with her loved ones on a daily basis by phone or in person.
She will be sadly missed by her four living children: daughter Dee Vidal of NY, sons Kevin Twigg of NY, John Twigg of New Port Richey, FL, and daughter Laura Twigg of NY, and their spouses and partners, son in law Robert Murray, sister in laws Patricia Buck of Myrtle Beach and Clark-Summit, PA, Kathleen Twigg of Brooklyn, NY, and Fran Byrne of NY.
She leaves Grandchildren Jaimie Koelbel and Greg (and Dana) Koelbel of NY, Corey (and Jim) Lanahan of NY, Dana (and Jeremy) Benvenuto of NY, Casey (and Desiree) Twigg of NY, Chase (and Cheyenne) Twigg, Ryan Twigg, and Taylor Twigg of New Port Richey, FL and 9 Great Grandchildren: Madeline, Andrew, Connor, Braden, Roman, Atticus, Isla, Aurora, and Casey, Jr. and many beloved cousins, nieces. nephews, friends and neighbors.
She was predeceased by husband George F Twigg, daughter Donna (nee Twigg) Murray, sister Helen Fittipaldi, brother John O’Rourke (FDNY), cousin Bill Byrne (FDNY), brother in law Eugene Buck, sister in law Helen (nee Opallo) O’Rourke, brother in law James Twigg, brother in law Charles Fittipaldi, and nephew Kevin Fittipaldi.
Cremation was entrusted to Dobies Funeral Home in Hudson, FL. She will be interred at Calverton National Cemetery in New York at a later time.
