Anthony “Tony” Stathakaros, 98, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2024, in the loving presence of his family.
Tony was born in Aigio, Greece, on May 21st, 1926, where he grew up helping his parents and nine siblings on the family farm. It was an upbringing that instilled in him a lifelong love for plants and animals. At 29, Tony married Cynthia Mitsakos, who would be his wife for 59 years until her passing in 2014. He came with her to America and soon entered the restaurant business, ultimately running the Epicure in Holiday, Florida, for nearly three decades before retiring in 2001. He spent his remaining years rooting for the Tampa Bay Rays, tending his fruit trees and flowers, and enjoying his family.
Tony leaves behind his daughter Alexandra (Sophinos) and son-in-law Len, of Connecticut; grandson Anthony, of Vermont; nephew Bill and his wife, Debbie, of Ohio; nephew Spiros Verras of Florida and sister Roula and extended family in Greece.
A graveside service at Cycadia Cemetery in Tarpon Springs, Florida, will be held on Tuesday July 16 at 11:30am. Prior to the graveside service will be a viewing from 10:30am to 11:00 am at Dobies Funeral Home in Tarpon Springs, Florida.
