On February 1st, 2023, Bruce Tyndall passed away at the age of 86.

Born in 1936 in Erwin, North Carolina, an only child, lived off and on with his grandmother while his mother and father worked. He earned money with his cousin cropping tobacco and picking cotton during the summer. He briefly lived in West Palm Beach with his mother before relocating to Jacksonville, FL where he attended Andrew Jackson High School, graduating in 1953. He played football, baseball and was on the track team while in high school.

Following high school, he worked at King Edwards Cigar factory applying labels to cigar boxes while living in a boarding house. He also worked as a copy boy and sold papers for the Jacksonville Journal. He then decided to enlist was sent to basic training in Texas. Following his training, Bruce married his first wife, Faith Tyndall, and had two children, Greg and Julie.

Bruce was very proud of his military service and being a veteran. He served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1958. Bruce attained the rank of Airman First Class. He was stationed at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS, and later moved to Homestead Air Reserve Base.

With small children afoot in family housing, he studied electrical engineering at the University of Florida while doing restaurant work on weekends. Post-graduation, his varied careers, included work at Honeywell Aeronautical Division and IBM Data Processing Division in the late 60s leading to the start his own computer service business.

Bruce married Barbara Lee Tyndall in 1972. Following her career at IBM, they both worked in real estate with Bruce managing a real estate investment business,  developing and selling large scale projects. He served 18 years, with multiple terms in Pinellas County as an elected County Commissioner. Using his computer skills and knowledge of elections while working for the county, Bruce continued his career as a project manager with Election Systems and Software travelling to multiple states to oversee installations of electronic voting processes in preparation for local elections.

He was an avid golfer, loved the water, as a scuba diver, took bi-annual trips to Key West to fish for lobster on his boat.

Bruce and Barbara enjoyed travelling to the mountains of NC and Tennessee with their German Shepard, Shadow.  Their practice of worship together at Gulf Coast Fellowship has been a source of great community, joy and fulfillment.

Bruce was recently widowed from Barbara Tyndall in 2018. He is survived by his two adult children, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 7th at Dobies Funeral Home in Tarpon Springs. Gathering begins at 9am, with service following at 10am.
