Charles E. Dohrman, “Charlie” 76, of Clearwater, Florida passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021,
at Mease Countryside Hospital. Charlie was born in Clearwater, FL., at Morton Plant Hospital,
on November 15, 1944, and was the son of the late Charles J. and Doris L. (Smith) Dohrman. In
February of 1980 he married the former Margaret Elizabeth (Fertig)
Charlie was a lifetime resident of the area, raised in Tarpon Springs, Fl., and graduated from
Tarpon Springs High School in 1964. Charlie was on the Sponger track team, Track Letter
Winner 4, and a Library Club Member.
Charlie received an Honorable discharge from the Army National Guard of Florida, 124th
Infantry division, in 1970 where he served for 6 years and earned the rank of SP4.
Always hard working from his youngest years, his very first job was a shoe-shine boy at the age
of 8 at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida while his father was stationed there.
Charlie was a drafting technician in the engineering department and retired from Progress
Energy Corporation after 30 years of service, in 2001. During his tenure he also received many
awards for his hundreds of volunteer hours with the “I AM INVOLVED” program through his
employer. Some of his more favorite memories were when he volunteered at Clearwater High
School in the wood shop class working with the students and their teacher, Elliot Graham.
Art was at the core of his being. Around 1974 He, along with his brother and some other
prominent influential residents, started the Tarpon Art Show in Tarpon Springs, Fl., on Spring
Bayou. His favorite medium he liked to work with was mostly pen and ink, but he also had an
interest in air brush.
Many friends and co-workers benefitted from his artistic talents and were often given personal
cards, notes, plaques, and awards, drawn by his loving hands.
Charlie’s favorite hobbies were Art, Jogging, Bowling, Woodworking, Classic Cars, especially his
Tuxedo Black 1962 Corvette with the Lipstick Red interior which won many awards at local car
shows in the area. He also belonged and attended many gyms throughout his life. Louisa spa,
American Fitness, European Spa, LA Fitness, etc. But his favorite by far was his most recent
membership at Planet Fitness in Palm Harbor, where he met many wonderful people and made
strong friendships. They even started their own club; The S.O.S….Same Ole S#!t club. The Covid
pandemic caused him to be unable to join his friends at the gym at 5am for their workout and
comradery, nor join them for breakfast afterwards. Something he sorely missed doing and left a
large void in his life.
Charlie had a huge personality and didn’t know a stranger, he loved talking to people; that was
one of his special gifts. The gift of gab. He was funny and smart and could fix anything. Beyond
all of that, his greatest gift about him was his big loving heart. He loved God, Family and
Country. And when he loved you, you knew it. He loved our blended family clan fiercely.
Charlie and Margaret were together for 44 years, 41 of those married. They built their loving
blended family together in the same house in Clearwater for most of those years.
