Doris R. Lindsay, 96, of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2023 surrounded by family.
She lived a life-long adventure of love for her family, helping others and traveling the world. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she grew up in the Fells Point neighborhood and entered nurses training at 17. She later earned her B.S. degree in Nursing Administration from the University of Maryland and achieved the rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force. Always looking out for family, she introduced her brother Eugene and cousin Frank to nurses they later married. After returning from the Air Force to Baltimore, she moved for several years to Aruba and worked as a nurse in the oil industry for the company that eventually became Exxon. While in Aruba, she earned her pilot’s license. Upon returning to Baltimore, she met her husband Jim Lindsay and worked to help children in the Baltimore division of Public Health. She moved to Palm Harbor, Florida in the early 1980’s with her husband to be near their daughter Cindy and husband Gary.
She was an active volunteer as a member of the Women’s League of Voters and the Upper Pinellas Pregnancy Center, an outreach of her parish, St Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church in Tarpon Springs.
Doris was a world traveler, visiting much of Europe, Asia, South America and Africa and towing along family members for what was always a memorable adventure. She loved to entertain and was an outstanding cook. Anyone that enjoyed her Lasagna, knew there was none better. In a time when dinner parties were popular, she was almost always the host, and the experience was most enjoyable.
It was a full life, well lived. Doris enjoyed sipping on champagne, and letting others know their time together was “delightful.” For those that knew and loved her, the “delightful” experience was ours.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Jim, and is survived by her sister Vivian Pondo of Largo, Florida; her brother Eugene (Patricia) Pondo of Pinellas Park, Florida; her nephew Robert (Sheila) Pondo of Tampa, Florida; her daughters Cindy (Gary) Osborne, Janice (Joel) Meszaros, and Mary (David) Head; her son James Lindsay; eight grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, June 5th at 11am at St. Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church in Tarpon Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Upper Pinellas Pregnancy Center (727-937-4304).

I volunteered at the Upper Pinellas Pregnancy Center with Doris on Monday mornings from August 2016 until March 2020. It was an honor to work side by side with Doris who was very gracious, caring and a hard worker. I enjoyed talking with Doris while we worked and our phone calls over the years after pandemic as we did not go back to the pregnancy center. We always had a good time. Doris was full of knowledge which she gladly shared with myself and the other 3 volunteers. The clients appreciated all Doris did for them as she was always patient and kind and really listened to their problems. Doris went a step further than just listening, as she would offer information where the client could receive the type of assistance that we were unable to offer. Although I had not seen Doris in some time I always remembered her in my daily prayers. I will miss my friend.

Doris was a wonderful caring neighbor. She was an active member of the Baywood Women’s club. She volunteered for the club monthly collecting food in the neighborhood (we can) for the local food pantry. She will be missed.

A very beautiful lady and neighbor, who lived a well life. Great loss to our parish. May she sleep with the angels.
