Dr. Steven A. Visnaw

Dr. Steven A. Visnaw

April 11, 1969~May 11, 2024

Steve, dearly beloved as a son, father, fiancé, uncle, and friend, left an enduring impact on all who knew him.

Raised by Karen and David Visnaw, with sister Alison, Steve’s childhood was defined by his inquisitive nature and relentless dedication. His love for science and attainment of Eagle Scout showcased his innate commitment to excellence. He was athletic and competitive in his drive on various track events. Every opportunity offered, you could count on Steve to excel in- it’s just who he was.

Steve was very proud of his two daughters, Ashley and Melissa and had so many fond memories of them. A proud uncle to his niece and nephews. Steve talked to his sister Alison each day, as they became even closer as adults. Steve held his family close to his heart.

One of the best chapters of his life was the one where Mindy, whom he called ‘Mi Amor’ became his best friend then fiancé.

With Mindy as his companion, Steve embraced life’s adventures, relishing in experiences and living authentically.

Steve maintained friendships from different chapters of his life- and he nurtured lifelong friendships, organizing yearly escapades across the country.

His strong work ethic allowed him to savor every moment.

Steve found solace in nature’s beauty, especially in sunsets and the serenity of water. A gracious host with an impeccable memory, he made everyone feel valued.

His thirst for knowledge extended to all aspects of life, notably his beloved University of Miami. Yet, his greatest joy came from creating spaces for others’ happiness, embodying a selfless spirit.

As Dr. Visnaw, he excelled in General Surgery for over 25 years, specializing in robotic and laparoscopic procedures. His compassionate approach to patient care defined his professional legacy.

In the tapestry of our lives, Steve’s absence is deeply felt. His boldness and unwavering authenticity will forever inspire us to live with courage and conviction.

We all were all very shocked to hear of Steven passing. We always remember when he was younger and he are son Timmy were the best of friends growing up.
They liked to fish in Dougherty Lake ….they would get our fishing poles out of our garage and after they got them all tangled up …they moved on to baseball.
I remember one tim they caught a large cat fish …put it in the wagon and took it all around the neighbor hood to show it off hoping that either his dad or Timmy dad would clean it. After a while it stunk so bad they had to get rid of it….
Steven and Timmy were the best of friends while growing up .
We have talked about the two of them growing up.
What one would think of something they did it!
We are truly sorry to hear he passed away….our thoughts and prayers go with you all. He will alway be remembered in our heart.
God Bless you all at this time.❤️

I just found out yesterday of Dr. Visnaws passing. I’m still in shock as I’m sure many are. He saved my life, with God’s help, and gave me a better quality of life. Dr.s in VA had done a slew of test with no findings in 2017. I met him in 2018, what was suppose to be a simple surgery, that turned into 10 hours removing Organs that had cancer. I know he is with God because he was a true example of his word. Our Prayers are with his family, friends and all who knew him and those who never had the chance to.

I am soo sad to hear that . He was a nice and peaceful surgeon. Becoming a doctor is not easy and had to deal with lots of stuff . My heart hurt to hear his passing . I pray that in God s Garden he has a place for him . I watched him doing surgeries and some bad ones too but he never stop and wanted to help one person at a time. May his soul rest in peace.

Dr Visnaw,

I am shocked to hear of your passing. You were the first attending I operated with at Bayonet Point. I’ll never forget that case or any of the lessons you taught me. You were the first surgeon to introduce me to the robot, which is now my primary tool in helping patients. I have you to thank for the surgeon I am today and wish you peace in the afterlife. I am certain your absence has left a huge void in the life of your family and loved ones, but I know you are watching them from above.

Rest easy,

Kris Nava
