Ellen Marie Thomson, born on April 13, 1941, lost her battle with COPD and passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Ellen was the oldest of six siblings and the last surviving member of her generation, serving as the beloved matriarch and the glue that held the family together.
Ellen’s life was marked by dedication and service. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Her spirit of giving extended into her volunteer work as an EMT for the Huntington Community First Aid Squad on Long Island, where she made a positive impact on many lives. In her free time, Ellen enjoyed playing Mahjong and other games, participating in trivia, traveling, and socializing with family and both new and lifelong friends.
Ellen is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years Donald W. Thomson, son Donald J. (Linda) Thomson, and daughters Diana (Jerry) Lukash and Debra (Caesar) Mayorga, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews all of whom will deeply miss her presence and treasure the impact she has made on their lives.
She was a loving, caring, and kind individual who had a zest for life, relishing in parties, delicious foods, and love of sweets. Ellen’s strength and resilience were exemplified by her 35 year victory over breast cancer, a battle she fought with grace and courage.
Ellen Thomson will be remembered for her unwavering love, her commitment to her family, and her generous heart. Her legacy of kindness and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Ellen and her husband Donald, who passed away just 5 short weeks after Ellen, will be honored at a funeral mass held at St. Peter the Apostle Church, located at 12747 Interlaken Rd, Trinity FL, 34655, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:30 am. Both Donald and Ellen will be inurned at Curlew Hills Memorial Gardens located at 1750 Curlew Rd, Palm Harbor, FL 34683 following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contributions in Ellen’s name be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (https://give.michaeljfox.org/give/421686/#!/donation/checkout).

Ellen and I have been friends for 50 years. We basically grew up together raising our children taking care of our home and being an integral part of our neighborhood. We are so glad to have visited them last year.
Ellen was a wonderful friend and I cherish her dearly.

My heartfelt condolences to Don and family. Ellen was my eldest cousin & I didn’t get to really know her till we were adults, and then I realized how lucky I was. We’d have many LONG, long-distance phone conversations sharing news of faith, family & fun! She & Don graciously hosted my husband & me in FL many times, and I remember one year a huge flock of flamingoes visited her on her birthday when we were there! Another year as we were leaving FL at the beginning of the covid outbreak, Ellen insisted we take to-go sandwiches & water…it sustained us through many states as we passed so many closed restaurants. Don & Ellen reared a wonderful family & I join them in holding Ellen in my heart forever.

There are no words to bring comfort to Ellen’s beautiful family at this sad time. Saddened as I am, my memories of a friendship that spanned over 65 years and the memories made and shared over time bring some measure of comfort. Our phone calls always ended with “I love you”. Her kind and generous spirit will be her legacy as well as the beautiful family she has left behind. Our phone calls always ended with. To Don, her devoted husband, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren my sincerest condolences are extended along with prayers for peace. May Ellen rest in eternal peace
