Fanitsa Frantzis Meehan passed away on November 3rd, 2022 at age 78 in Wesley Chapel, Florida. She was raised in Tarpon Springs, Florida. She graduated from Florida State University earning her degree in Interior Design and was a very active member of her sorority, Delta Gamma. At Florida State, she met her husband, George Meehan. Following college, her husband joined the Navy as an officer to serve in Vietnam and Fanitsa moved to Japan to work with the USO and Special Services, helping write for the Naval Base newspaper, designing officer’s housing, and helping design hospitals and facilities for recovering soldiers.
After returning from Japan she began her career as an Interior Designer in St. Petersburg. She designed hundreds of homes, businesses, offices, and banks throughout her career and was the first teacher of the Interior Design program at St. Peterburg College. She later also opened seven gift stores in St. Pete and Tarpon Springs that sold home décor, seasonal, and Christmas decorations, one year winning the “Christmas Store of the County” award.
Fanitsa volunteered with numerous charitable organizations such as PARC, Queen of Hearts, American Cancer Society, Daughters of Penelope, and served as a Guardian Ad Litem for children in Pinellas County. She also was a member of the Golden Chiefs for the Florida State Seminoles Booster Club and was an avid FSU football fan her entire life.
Fanitsa lost her husband George in 1991 and is survived by her son George III (Heather), and brother Dr. Ted Frantzis, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews across Tampa Bay.
A viewing will be held for Fanitsa on Monday November 7th at Dobies Funeral Home Tarpon Springs from 5 to 7pm and her memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg on Wednesday November 9th at 10am.

Fanitsa and I were roommates in the DG house at FSU. She was a beautiful lady both inside and out. May God bless you and your family.

Fanitsa was full of laughter and fun to be around! I worked part time in St Pete at her lovely Christmas store. She was quite the business lady and very talented. Her pride and joy was her son George. Sending George and family my deepest condolences.
