George M. Galanos, a lifelong resident of Tarpon Springs, passed away peacefully in his hometown, surrounded by family. A dedicated steel mill worker for 49 years, George began his career at U.S. Steel in Indiana before eventually returning to his roots in Florida. He was recognized with a 45-year service award, having proudly produced 2,028,000 caster tons.
Born and raised in Tarpon Springs, George was the son of a sponge diver, a heritage he carried with pride. His strong work ethic and quiet determination reflected the spirit of the community he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Galanos; sister, Kaliope Dris; children, Milton and Evangeline; and five grandchildren: Kaitlin, Alexia, Nicholas George, and Irene. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren: Michael, Nicolette, and Adon.
To his family, he was Pappou—always ready for a game of rummy, a western movie, a drive in his Buick, or a plate of his home-cooked meals. He will be remembered for his relentless work ethic, meticulous nature, loyalty to his family, and the quiet pride he took in doing things his “own” way.
May his memory be eternal.
