She was born to parents Joseph Collins and Amanda Collins, on December 10, 1925 in Newport News, VA.

She graduated from Newport News High School in 1942.

She enjoyed playing the piano, going to church, and mainly spending time with her beloved family. Gertrude was an accomplished pianist, playing for her local church, weddings and other civic events. She was greatly loved by her friends and family with special thoughts of those at Life Care Center in New Port Richey, FL.

Gertrude met Freddie King in 1942. They were married on April 24th, 1943 in Newport News, VA. Together they raised 3 children: a daughter and two sons.

Gertrude is survived by Rosalinde AuCoin-daughter, Clyde King-son, Joseph King-son, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Freddie King-husband, and two grandsons.

The family has entrusted Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home, 8825 Old CR 54, New Port Richey, FL 34653 with the arrangements. A viewing and memorial service is scheduled for January 3rd , 2020 at Living Word Church, 5151 Rowan Road, New Port Richey, FL 34653. Guest Viewing 11:00AM – 11:30AM. Memorial Service begins at 11:30AM. Reverend Tim Santinga will officiate the memorial service.
