June 30, 1920~February 02, 2021

Isabelle “Belle” Belfsky, recently of Hudson, FL, passed away on February 2, 2021 after a period of declining health. She was the youngest daughter of George and Katherine Dianis, born in Fairfield, CT, on June 30, 1920. In her amazing 100 plus years of life, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. A friend to many and a true family matriarch.
Belle was a long time (55 year) resident of Avon CT., where she and her husband Frank raised their family and became involved in the community. Frank was a long- time member of the Avon Fire Department, while Belle was a volunteer in the Ladies Auxiliary. A woman of strong Christian faith, Belle was a devoted member of St. Mathews Lutheran Church in Avon, serving on many committees for decades. She was also an avid volunteer at the Favarh Thrift Store serving well into her 80’s. During WW II she supported the war effort by working at a munitions factory in Bridgeport, CT.
Throughout her lifetime, she developed many meaningful relationships. This included her neighbors Ray and Carol Griffin, Lucy Paulton and Marlene and AJ Snecinski along with their son Alex. To her, they were all considered family. She remained close to her childhood Friend Martha Klenovitz for over 90 years, and as fate would have it, ended up residing in the same nursing home together along with Martha’s sister Helen Chernek.
Belle had a passion for crossword puzzles, but most of all she excelled at scrabble. Her playing skills and ability to best her opponents in scrabble, for which she took a special delight, are part of family lore! She was also an excellent pianist. As in her life, she always made the best of whatever she was dealt, in this case letters.
She was also known for her infectious smile and wry sense of humor. Though frugal to the core, with a waste-not want-not attitude, “Ma Belfsky” took a great deal of pride in the accomplishments and successes of her children, grand-children and great- grandchildren.
As family matriarch, Belle enjoyed the many joyous family reunions that by tradition, coincided with her birthday. For many years, family and friends gathered from all over the country to celebrate “Grandmas” birthday. Festivities were traditionally held over long July 4th weekends at her son Frank’s Jaffrey NH lake house usually with live music, fireworks, boat rides and much more. We will always remember her shaking the ceremonial coconuts, posing for countless pictures, dancing, and hula hooping with the grandkids and great grandkids.
Belle was pre-deceased by her husband, Frank C. Belfsky, two brothers, two sisters, and daughter Joan. She is survived by her children Gerry & Graham Scott, Nancy Belfsky, Barbara Teevan, Frank & Kathleen Belfsky, Robert & Kathee Belfsky and Richard Belfsky. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Wolf, Geoffrey Wolf, Timothy Belfsky, Ashley Belfsky, Amanda Belfsky, Alex Belfsky, Kevin Griswold, H.J. Wicko, Carol Boden, Ken Lyon, Beth Lyon, Debbie Lyon, Richard Lyon, Susan Damiano, Lauren Campbell and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Solaris Healthcare, Hudson, FL who provided her with exceptional care for the last few years, especially during the hardships brought on by Covid 19.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to: St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 224 Lovely St., Avon CT 06001.
