I remember the first time I met “Papa Jack†at crossroads chapel . He had a baby in his arms, and a smile on his face. He was our first baby whisperer. It didn’t matter what was wrong with the baby, if you gave it to Papa Jack it would soon be smiling, asleep, or both. When our daughter came along it was with pride that I handed her to Papa Jack.
Joe Hurley and I now compete over being the baby whisperer, but we both learned from the best. Our church was small in numbers back then and Papa Jack and Miss Alice always made us feel part of the Hurley family. A Sunday was never complete without a hug from Papa Jack and being told I was a blessing. I told Nancy tonight that he had it wrong, indeed he was our biggest blessing. To Miss Alice, the Children, and grandchildren my prayer is that your mind takes you back to sweet memories like this when you heart feels the void that such a wonderful man left, and may you find some comfort in knowing that he is surely in heaven.
