James Andrew Macholz, (64), of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on June 9, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. He fought his battle with Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma for over five long years. James was also fondly known as “Big Jim, Big Mac, and Big Grandpa.” His big heart, smile, and personality will be missed by all. James was born December 31, 1958, in Bristol, Connecticut, to the Rev. Stanley Macholz and Gloria Macholz. He grew up in Islip, New York. He later moved to Florida, where he lived for over 40 years before recently retiring to his farm in Tennessee. Big Jim worked as a general contractor all of his adult life. He took pride in his work and was highly respected in the construction industry. He served two terms as president of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry-NARI Tampa Bay and was a member of the SEN Design Group for over a decade. He left his personal touch on the homes of countless friends and customers. When Jim was not working, he enjoyed spending time with friends at the American Legion Hall and VFW in Safety Harbor, going on cruises, singing karaoke, hunting, cheering for the Florida Gators, and spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, and dachshunds. Big Jim always had a passion for hockey and loved the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was a season ticket holder for many years and some of his best memories were going to games with his wife and sons. Despite being very ill over the last several months, Jim never lost his sense of humor. He was always known for his sarcasm and jokes. He had a great ability to make others laugh and smile and his sense of humor will be missed. James is survived by his wife, Linda, and his four children, Jennifer Lavieri (Scott), Amy Grobleski (Aaron), Ryan Macholz, and Tyler Macholz (Rachel), his grandchildren, Jenson, Jake, Jaxton, and Alivia, his siblings, Judy King, the Rev. John Macholz and Jeff Macholz, numerous nieces and nephews and his two dachshunds Reiley and Glory. James was predeceased by his parents the Rev. Stanley Macholz and Gloria Macholz. A celebration of life will be held at the VFW in Safety Harbor, FL on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. In remembrance of Big Jim’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to VFW POST 10093 Safety Harbor, Florida, in lieu of flowers. https://www.vfw-post10093.org/
