We are heartbroken to announce the death of a warm-hearted and loving man, John Joseph Howey, Sr. He passed away on the 8th day of September, 2022, at the age of 76. John was born to parents Charles and Anne Howey, on 13 March, 1946, in New York, New York.
As a child, John grew up in Port Jervis, NY. He enjoyed swimming in the riverbanks of The Acre and eating sausage sandwiches at Mt. Carmel. He often traveled with the local carnival and had a passion for working on automobile transmissions. John served his country as a member of the US Air Force. He later moved to Warren, PA, changing careers and becoming the best pizza dough-tosser at Napoli Pizza.
In 1970, he married the love of his life, Maude, and they raised two beautiful children together. They would go on to spend a wild 52 years together, the happiest years of John’s life. In the early 2000’s John and his wife relocated to Florida, to be closer to their grandchildren.
John’s favorite holiday was Christmas, proven year after year by his display of having the brightest and most decked out house on the block. He absolutely loved the holidays and always took advantage of having family over for dinner. He spent the rest of his years enjoying golf, watching old western films, cooking, cracking jokes, and especially spending time with his wife and family.
John is survived by his wife-Maude, daughter-Tina Howey-Bevan and husband Steve, and his son-John Howey Jr. and partner Tracy Salerno, his loving grandchildren-Stephanie, David, and Katelynn “Squirt”, as well as his great-grandchildren-Mikey and Alice, his siblings-Peggy Decker, Danny, Billy, Jimmy, and Cheryl Howey, and his buddy-Walder, and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Charles “Beebees” Howey, and sister Maryann Majia.
John’s wishes were to be cremated with no visitation. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Port Jervis, New York. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Homes for our Troops,.
He was an amazing Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother. He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.
