It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Anthis, of Tarpon Springs Florida. He died on Saturday May 6th, 2023, surrounded by his family after his battle with cancer.
John (Johnny or little Mario as he was affectionately known) was born on December 5th, 1945 in Kalimeriani, Evia in Greece, to parents Kostas and Eleni Anthis. Residing in Greece for many years, he immigrated to Astoria, New York, and ultimately settled down with his family in Tarpon Springs, Florida, in 1991. As a business owner for many years, he was a beloved member of his community. He was known for his generosity and kindness, helping those in need regardless of their circumstances. Often taking payment in any form, including baskets of fruit (there was always freshly squeezed fruit juice in his house!). With a bright smile and sarcastic whit, he was sure to keep those in his company in good humor. John worked hard and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for cooking and could whip up a delicious meal with the simplest ingredients (best kept secret, tomato juice!). He would leave people thinking about his meals for days! He loved gardening and spending time on his porch watching the world go by. He especially enjoyed befriending the small neighborhood critters, which you could find him hand feeding on his porch.
John is survived by his children Marilena, Kosta, Kiki and Angie; grandchildren Gianni and Antoni; great granddaughter (on the way); as well as his sisters Evaggelio and Anna; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives who loved him dearly. John was predeceased by his wife Mary; sisters Nina and Tammy.
Funeral services will be held at St Nicolas Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday, May 9th, at 12pm.

John always treated me like his own daughter, loving, caring, and always had a big, bright smile! I’ll miss the shuffling of his walk, and the yummy meals he made with love! I’m sorry your life was cut short on this earth, but I can’t wait till we are all reunited again with our loved ones in heaven! Rest In Peace, John.

One of the best people I ever knew. He was more than a neighbor he was more than a friend. He was a grandpa to my children, who inspired me to name my daughter, Athena. We lived together, cooked together and shared so much love and food 😆 haha!
