Joseph Donald Degenhardt Jr, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, passed away on December 21st, 2022. Don was born in Altoon, PA. to Don and Virginia on December 28th, 1950. The family moved to Florida in 1954. Don was the oldest of six children. Kathy Jerkins of Palm Harbor, Pat Huber (deceased), David Degenhardt of Tarpon Springs, Craig Degenhardt of Crystal Beach and James Degenhardt(deceased). Don Had one son Jay who preceded him in death.
Don graduated from Tarpon Springs High School in 1968 and went on to serve three years in the Army. Don Moved to Tampa and worked for 30 years at GTE/Verizon. Upon his retirement, he moved back to Tarpon Springs.
As an avid traveler, Don had friends worldwide. He shared his love of travel with many of his nieces and nephews, taking them with him to many countries. Don took his mom to visit Ireland many times as she and he both loved the people of Ireland.
More than anything Don loved his family and would take care of us, even if we didn’t think we needed it. He was stubborn, strong, kind and sometimes gruff (in a good way), but there was never any doubt of his undying love for his family and friends.
Don was very a quiet, private person who never wanted a fuss made over him. He requested there be no viewing or services. Instead we invite you to remember him with a toast on his birthday, December 28th. As we say goodbye to a wonderful brother and friend. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

I am so very sorry to read about Mr. Degenhardt’s passing. My name is Fran Vinson Nurrenbrock, and I worked, as a nurse, at Helen Ellis Hospital from 1965 until 2010. I enjoyed working with his mom, Virginia Degenhardt, and with his dad, Don. My deepest sympathy to all of you. They were fabulous people!
