Joseph Lee Payne, Jr., of Hudson, FL, passed away at home on Saturday, January 7th, 2023, at the age of 83, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe (“Junior”) was born on December 5, 1939, in Chiefland, FL to the late Joseph Lee and Glenna Mae (Webb) Payne. Joe proudly served our country in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves (1959-1965). He was predeceased by his beloved wife of almost 41 years, Bobbie Jean (Masters) Payne; sisters, Evelyn Cannon, Gelette Bronson, Alva Davis and Wanda Welch; and his brothers, “Charlie” and “Dick” Payne. He is survived by his loving companion, Carolann Rubright; sons, Gregory K. Payne (Tracy) of Dallas, GA; Byron R. Payne (Cheryl) of Wellington, FL; Shawn K. Payne (Shanon) of Longmont, CO; grandchildren, Daniel C. Payne (Ally), Andrew R. Payne (Bethany), Kayli M. Plaia (Charlie), Jaclyn R. Payne, and Taylor M. Payne; great grandchildren, Madeline G. Plaia and Salvatore “Luke” Plaia. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to “Carol” for the love and selfless care she provided to Joe up until the end. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association in Joe’s memory.

Even though we did not know Joe very well, we know he was loved by his three sons, family and friends. All have their own conforting and responsive concerns for their Dad and friend. Rest in peace.

Very sorry for the passing of your Dad. Uncle Junior was when I was younger, always around. He was the last and youngest of the 6 Payne siblings. Hard to believe that era is gone now.
