Kathleen Pigue Reed

February 12, 1956~November 07, 2023

Kathleen “Kat” Pigue Reed, 67, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, passed away on November 7, 2023. She is survived by her children, Alison (David) Davis of St. Petersburg, Clint (Betina) Reed of Tarpon Springs; two beloved granddaughters, Hanna and Audrey, and one grandson on the way; her two siblings, Gael, of Seattle, and James, of San Francisco; and her dog Loki.

Kathleen was born in Palatka, FL on February 12, 1956 to the late Vonice Long Pigue and Jackson Eugene Pigue. She loved growing up on the St. John’s River in Fruitland at her family’s fish camp, and also spent many happy, carefree days as a child with her many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins at their cabins in Salt Springs, FL. Her family later moved to Crescent City, FL, where she graduated as the valedictorian of the class of 1974 at Crescent City Jr.-Sr. High School.

She had successful careers in Florida and Georgia as an executive assistant, commercial property manager, and finished her career at Florida East Coast Railroad. She found her true passion in retirement, as it was helping to raise her granddaughters.

Kathleen made her family her world, and her love for them was all encompassing and unconditional. She considered her children her biggest accomplishment. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment with them.

She and her siblings shared a deep, loving bond, and while miles apart, they spoke almost daily. She was adored by her nephews, Matthew & Jon, both of Seattle, being their “other Momma” when they were young.

She loved sports and was a passionate Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Rays fan (except when they played her other favorite, the Boston Red Sox).

Kathleen had an enormous heart, a magnetic smile, a youthful spirit, a fierce independence, and boundless courage to speak her mind. She was beloved by many friends, from her childhood girlfriends’ group who remained close, to the new friends she made and helped everywhere she went.

She loved a sunset along the beach, whether it was enjoyed with her granddaughter at Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs, swimming with her daughter at Indian Rocks, or drinking and laughing with her friends at Woody’s Waterfront in St. Pete Beach.

Kathleen loved and gave with all she had, and left an indelible mark on so many. She will be deeply missed.

In honor of her generosity and compassion, donations may be made to the Florida Hospice & Palliative Care Association: https://www.floridahospices.org/support-hospice/make-a-donation/, a cause close to her heart after caring for her late father, or to the Humane Society of Pinellas: https://www.humanesocietyofpinellas.org/donate/, as she dearly loved and cared for animals.

A celebration of life will be held at Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs. Please contact the family for details.

I’m saddened to hear of your mom’s passing. We had lovely times together going to lunches, Sunset Beach day with the Golden Gals, a boat ride to Anclote Key. The thing she talked about and loved the most was her time with her children and grandkids. She was full of light and wisdom. She took pride in being a native Floridian and she loved her sports teams! Truly a sweet soul! I will miss her.
