Not made aware of his condition until 48 hours prior to his passing I am grateful that I at least was able to see dad one time before he passed. He was able to get out a few words in the short time we had. Before I left his side I held his hand and told him I loved him. From the gasping and wincing he came to and sat bolt-upright and I will never forget the broad smile and the look on his face as he looked me in the eyes, squeezed my index and middle fingers with what little strength he had remaining and said, “I love you, son. I miss you.” These words and that face will never leave the forefront of my conscious. Those were not his last words to me, however. True to form, ending with a joke, as I left that room, in a sing-song voice dad said, “thanks for stoppin’ by!” Thanks for having me dad. And thank you for all the things you taught me. I use them every day. How to use tools, appreciate nature, admire art (i wish I had your talent!) tell a joke but most of all, the one I use most often, if I don’t have any idea how to do something – I sure will figure it out! Even if I have to mess up a few times trying .Thanks dad. I love you and miss you too. I wish I had anotjer chance to tell you how much.

Even if I have to mess up a few times and cuss a lot while trying .Thanks dad. I love you and miss you too. I wish I had another chance to tell you how much.
