Loretta Frost Leonard Fitzgerald Beacon, 92, of New Port Richey Florida passed away on June 13, 2023 at Trinity Hospital

She was born in 1930 in New York. She graduated from Dominican Commercial High School in Queens, NY in 1948, where she honed her excellent office skills. After marrying in 1949 and raising children, she took an administrative position at Grant Hardware in West Nyack, NY and rose to the position of Human Resources Director. After 20 years there, she moved on to an administrative position at Loeb House in Pearl River NY, a non-profit provider of housing services for those living with mental illness, addiction or medical conditions.

Active and lively, Loretta, or Cookie as many knew her, was a superior seamstress, crafter, Girl Scout leader and political activist, serving many years on the Board of Elections. A friend to all, generous, and an unfailing animal lover, she could converse with anyone and was a champion of the underdog. After retirement, and with her husband, Ralph Beacon Jr, she traveled to Europe, Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and Hawaii. Trips to Alaska and Hawaii were with her children and grandchildren and were very special times.

She lived on her own and on her own terms. She kept her sense of humor to the end. Two months before her death, she traveled to Maryland and reveled in a family and friend reunion, where everyone showed her love and appreciation. It was a highlight.

Loretta is survived by her daughter, Lynn Fitzgerald Lubey (Thomas) of Bowie, MD; her son, Alan P. Fitzgerald (Carol) of New Port Richey; grandsons Scott Lubey of Bowie, MD and TJ Lubey (Melaney) of Ventura, CA and great grandchildren Isaac and Loretta Lubey of Ventura. She is preceded in death by her parents, Loretta Griffin Frost Leonard and Albert J. Frost, sister Barbara Leonard, and spouses Bruce Fitzgerald and Ralph Beacon Jr.

A memorial gathering will be held at Dobies Funeral Home in New Port Richey on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. Interment of her ashes along with the ashes of her late husband Ralph will take place July 28 at Bushnell National Cemetery in Florida at 11:30 am.

Memorial donations in her name can be made at any no kill animal shelter of your choice.

The family is deeply grateful to close friends Michael and Sandra Capazzi and neighbor Barb Ross for their love and support.

“So when tomorrow starts without me,

Don’t think we’re far apart

For every time you think of me

I’m right here in your heart”

Loretta was one of a kind – smart, funny, and all about the pets! So glad we got to visit with her in April. Love and hugs to the family – she will be missed.

Loretta was one of my dearest friends & even though I told her many times, to think of me as “Plan B”, if she ever needed anything, she never asked. She always said, “oh, I didn’t want to bother you!” She was never a “bother” to me or anyone else.
She was a kind & loving soul & I am honored that she called me “her friend” 🥰
