Hartshorn, Lorraine June (Chatel), age 90, of Holiday, FL, formerly of Quincy, MA, passed away peacefully October 10, 2019.
Born in Cambridge, MA in 1929, Lorraine also spent time growing up in Lowell, MA and New York. Together with her husband, Buddy, she raised her young family in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston before staying in Quincy for several decades. She and Buddy removed to Dunedin, FL upon his retirement. Lorraine recently lived in Holiday with daughter Kim who cared for her since Buddy’s passing.
Never shying away from adventure, Lorraine was vibrant and full of energy. She modeled as a young woman, and worked at S.S. Pierce in Cambridge with her future sister-in-law through whom she met Buddy. Crafty and creative, she repaired and repainted dolls with her children for neighborhood kids who didn’t have toys in JP. A lifelong animal lover, Lorraine bred dogs when her children were younger. Never without a pet, she always had a poodle or two by her side. After moving to Quincy, Lorraine very much enjoyed working at the little shop outside of Quincy Yacht Club, chatting with her Houghs Neck neighbors. She loved to travel and would take her family on excursions nearly every weekend. Lorraine was a skilled angler, from lake to sea, once even catching a shark. Being out on the boat and living near the water were among the things she enjoyed most. She and Buddy would cut a mean rug, often showing off their dancing chemistry. Lorraine was known for her puzzle making prowess and crocheting blankets for others. She enjoyed card night with family and friends. Lorraine was adored by her loved ones. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
Lorraine was married to her long time love, the late Frederick “Buddy†Hartshorn, husband of 72 years. She was the loving mother to Donna M. Glynn and late husband Jim of Quincy, Wayne “Butch†Hartshorn and wife Dorothy of Weymouth, MA, Kim Hagan and husband John of Holiday, FL, and daughter-in-law Linda Hartshorn of Quincy, wife of late son Keith Hartshorn. A special grandma to 12 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, she always had gifts for everyone. Additionally, she leaves brother-in-law Teddy Hartshorn and wife Ellen of NH. Lorraine is also predeceased by children Yvette and Kevin Hartshorn, as well as her parents Walter Chatel of NY and Gladys (Joslin) Chatel Hanagan of Lowell and Cambridge, MA. She was the special younger sister to the late “Sonny†Walter Chatel who passed in childhood.
