Lowell Garred “Gary” Stevens, 75, passed away peacefully October 16th, 2023 at home surrounded by family. Born in Pikeville, KY, he moved to Chicago where he worked as a machinist for over forty years while raising his daughter, Tamie.
Gary was a hardworking man who loved the simple things – The Andy Griffith Show, a good cheeseburger, and his Little Debbie snacks. He was a self taught guitar player who loved music, especially The Eagles, James Taylor, and Bluegrass. He was a warm, funny, and steady man who cared deeply about his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son, James ‘Pug’ Stevens; parents Leonard Stephens and Mary Ratilff; brother, Lloyd Stephens; sister and brother-in-law, Daphne and David Perdue; sister, Janice Klinghoffer; brother-in-law, Sonny White; and former wife, Eileen Gracey.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tamie and Jonathan Zelaya; bonus daughter, Angel Krantz Pollock and husband, Todd Pollock; brothers, Noel Stephens and Jack Ratliff; sisters, Lois White and Diana Thacker, and her husband Harold; many nieces and nephews, Maria Zelaya and the Zelaya family, extended family and friends.
Gary was deeply loved and will be missed.
