Melvin was my school classmate from 1st grade through graduating from New Athens High School in 1958. He was rather quiet and quite smart and didn’t miss a day of Sunday School (or school for that matter). We corresponded through email and Facebook after his move to FL. He shared with me his daughter’s illness and expressed his sadness. I send my sympathy to his son, Michael, and his family.

Mel and I were cousins both born in 1940. Mel was just 6 months older than I. All though we lived about 20 miles apart, we were as close as cousins could be. We were two of 4 cousins born in 2 years apart. Three in 1940 and one in 1939. I always was very close to Mel. I will miss him. Cousin Dwight

Mel was a sweet cousin that liked to study family history. When my husband passed in 2014, Mel made it his mission to call me once a month to make sure I was doing ok. I will miss those calls and him. Shirley
